My New Toy - JBL Boombox Extreme 2

What can I say.....water resistant up to one meter submerged (floats on the pool), bass that shakes the house. A very mature box that makes your music sound fresh again. I'm noticing things in tracks I've heard many times that I never knew were in the background.

Meet my new beach box. The JBL Extreme 2. 24 hours battery life, 2 charge ports and will float or can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes with no problem. The bass is out of this world. The bumpboxx may boom but this rattles and saturates the bass and goes deep! Those that are familiar with car stereos that provide that rich saturation of bass know the sound I'm talking about. I'm astonished with what modern tech is able to accomplish with a speaker this size.

Expensive. Yep. And worth every darn dollar. I ordered a carry pouch for when I need to throw it in the trunk or pack it. It has protection for the passive radiators on the sides and pockets for storage.

I agree that it's not a sexy looking machine.

Glad it doesn't suck. The sound and durability is simply awesome. And it is a boombox that's rugged. It will make a great durable beach machine. It's pricey but it will keep me from taking my valuable sexy vintage boxes out.

This box looks much better without the grill but I'm afraid I'll damage the speaker and this will be operated around kids and water so it needs to he rugged

I'll see if I can find a video with the grill removed. I may try it one day.

This speaker isn't a flashy in your face speaker. It's more of a refined and tamed experienced device that knows how to swim..haha

It sounds like a good 'un but there's nowt to see! A bit of colour - or even graffiti - wouldn't go amiss to give it a lift or street cred but it just looks like a life buoy thingy carried by The Hoff. That said, if one was 'off one's head' one wouldn't care, would one?

BTW: You bought it so, if you're happy with it, nothing else matters - including my comments so I hope you enjoy it for all it's worth.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Interesting and very informative review video, I can now better understand the attraction and appreciate the versatility of this. The chap in the video kept emphasising how HUGE this BB is, it doesn't look particularly big to me but is it 'big' as a comparison to other similar products?

I can assure everyone, I am as old school as it gets. This purchase was more Function over Form. Once I heard and saw all what it was capable of, all while maintaining a quality sound, I started seeing this box in a new light. I didn't currently have a boombox that was water resistant and could float in a pool while blasting tunes or get wet when washing my car or could survive a thunder shower without worry. I've never heard a water resistant speaker that sounds this good for it's size and would run longer than 24 hours so...eh. Why not? We'll see long term but JBL's are known for their speakers. They really do sound very well.

I can honestly say that, even given it's price, I will feel much more comfortable with this box out at the pool or beach with kids running around spraying water guns etc. Kids will be kids. I can't tell you how much it would ruin a vacation to see my M90 or C100 face plant on the concrete around a pool or worse yet...sinking to the bottom.

While I'm not in a hurry to see how fast I can destroy this speaker, I would rather lose 450 dollars should something happen to it....than any of my vintage grails. In an adult atmosphere where they're safe and not near hazards the vintage blasters can make their appearance

Wow!!! Seeing how gloriously it farts into the pool makes me want a house with a pool!!! JBL is synonymous with The Bass, so no surprises here, and whatever new technology they are using, I do know that there some magic got invented recently. My AR iPod dock is so bassy, it is unlistenable when in the house, can be used only when barbecuing...
Q from an uninitiated: what the $&@k is "tailgating" when talking about bbox?
Another Q: for me bbox can be mono, mini, but it must (Must!) have a cassette mech...!!! Collecting Discmans (and having less than a dozen of bboxes) I am mostly on the "dark side", but for me boombox Must be able to play cassettes.

I agree Jorge. Having a cassette deck was my motivation behind getting the GPO Brooklyn.

I had a few outdoor activities today and this little JBL carried the bass outside like a pro. By far the warmest outdoor speaker I have.

Much appreciated. The warm sound makes it all worth while and the Bluetooth distance and battery life is amazing.
