I'm in the mist of a complete tear down clean up of a 2500 I stole off e-bay. $112 bucks from Serbia. Absolute impeccable condition, except it doesn't power on (not worried about that just yet, seems like the power button is a little squirrely & both fuses checked out OK for continuity) and it was filthy dirty because of a disintegrated cassette belt. Was everywhere! So I completely disassembled it to clean it. Is there any easy way to get this sticky black mess off? I found out the introduction of water only makes it worse, a smearing mess. Fantastik seems to work, but it definitely isn't easy by any stretch. Will goof off take factory color off the case, and or melt the plastic? And the pulley is a hot mess also. Any suggestions from anyone who has had to clean a similar mess would be much appreciated!

This was a virgin box. Never taken apart (until today that is)! I think iv'e only ever seen that one other time.
