Hi there, just joined from Northern England and would like to say thanks for the invaluable info so far. A friend of mine asked me to take a look at his Sharp GF-555 so have been stripping down and replacing belts and the capstan rubbers. I'm usually working on Turntables and reel to reels as a hobby but very impressed with the performance and looks of this. He also has a GF-777 for me to have a look at too sometime but I'm on the look out for something of my own now 😁 Thanks, Mark.

Welcome aboard mate, great to see another northern member contributing and getting the bug!!!
Hope the repairs go well and you find a nice box for yourself.

Thanks Docs, just waiting for parts but overall in great condition and all seems to be working as it should except the capstan rubbers.

I think i have the odd capstan roller for a sharp somewhere, surprising that they are still around out there.
If you are after better sound quality, I would look for alternatives to Sharp in my opinion.

Improvising with silicon tubing, seems to be a common fix but then using decent belts. I'll do a bit digging through the site to get a general opinion on what to look for and what to avoid, thanks again.
