Cassette Collection out of Hiding - Golden Era Hip Hop

So I FINALLY bought myself a Napa cassette holder. I decided on the 64 cassette holder. After digging through some closets, drawers, and boxes, I loaded her up FULLY. To my surprise I filled her up and still have a handful of cassettes that will need to go back into hiding. I should have bought the 100 cassette holder, but just means I need to buy another one!

Cassettes have always been reserved for Hip Hop. I have a few gems..and some very limited pressings.

I also have an extremely extensive vinyl collection and that is where you will find my drum and bass, classic rock, soul, funk, reggae, and more hip hop.

So I spent 11 years in Oakland, CA and 15 years in Boston/NYC. Hence the selection of music you see.....

Very nice collection of tapes... and a so-so cassette player. Just kidding. That M90 is a beast.

Thank You. Nothing beats looking at the Liner Notes / Shout Outs of some of them old school cassettes. I always get a kick out of reading them. Aghhh, the gold ole- days.

I have a couple Too Short Cassettes, that were made before he was picked up by Jive. I had this OG who lived near me and gave them both to me. He told me they were bought from Too Short when he used to hustle tapes in the parking lot of a local mall in East Oakland. Everything sounds believable. Both copies don't exist according to Discogs, and I'm thinking about adding them. Several misprints on each. On Born to Mack (white tape with screws), the tracks, for the most part can't be read, because they were printed through the clear section of the tape, where you see the tape reels / tape.

It's also a 1987 pressing, and there was only 1 1987 pressing per Discogs (the rest were in 1988) and that was on clear tape. Dangerous Music is the only label mentioned on the tape.

I was zoomed in looking at your tape titles. I'd Love to get your opinion on a few that are the best. I do like clean lyrics since my wife and daughter are real particular about language. I argue, but realized quickly that it's not worth it. I loved Jam Master Jay and Run DMC, but of the music that I can remember, I can't remember the titles nor the band names. I remember the break dancing parties out on the street during trips with a gang of strangers that just get along playing hip hop and breakin'. If I had only paid attention to the music we payed.

Anyway, I then scrolled down and your M90 popped up and I literally gasped like a frikin' nerd! LOL!

Thanks for the share and for any info on some great stuff. I do remember NWO, but I KNOW I can't play that!

Damn! Sounds like you got your hands on a few of Too Short's early demo tapes! Hang on to those man, priceless. Nice collection and M90

I'm getting ready to mount my 6th Napa 100 rack. Everything on top of my currents either sealed blanks, duplicates, or doubles that won't fit. Any spaces are for common stuff (i.e. Led Zep, that I'm due to find more of).
