Bad day for me! These days I have no luck with boombox repairs.

I was changing the main belt on my Crown 950 and afterwards putting it all back together.

Everything was working fine until the face cover with speakers went on it.

When the face cover with the speakers are connected leaving them side by side, it records and works fine, but when I bring the panel with the speakers on top and press record/play, it makes a high pitched squealing noise. The left microphone is the one squealing a lot.

Now with the cover panel with speakers on it squeals so loud.

I have no idea what I did wrong here. I was working on it since 10:00AM and now it is like 3:30PM. I am worn out.... trying to figure out what is the issue.

Radio and all works so good! Playback works perfect, radio to tape record works beautiful, but microphone record functions make loud squealing noise.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated guys!

Royce I would double check your ground strap on the deck.
Hi Floyd, Thanks! I checked it again and it is in place. That ground was a washer on the left bottom side of the 4 screws that hold the deck in place.

I accidentally bend the record lever on the deck when I put it, then bend it back in place. It works fine for play back and recording when the front cover with speakers are on the side.

I know how you feel Royce I have to work on my beloved pc 11 and I'm not looking forward to it I wish I could hire a professional to do it but I'm too poor.

I will say though that most times when you get that kind of hum coming from the tape deck it's because of the Record switch.

Hi Floyd, I cleaned the record switch also. It is the microphone function is making noise. It is driving me nuts. It was all working fine and I wanted to make it more perfect. :bang:

I have a Sony CFS 570 also that I messed up while trying to make it more perfect. I just changed the speakers and put that back. Now the play function making humming noise.

Royce as bad as it sounds you might have to start from scratch brother when you're well-rested Leave It Go and do it when you feel good I would just take the whole thing apart and retrace your steps that's about all you can do.

It's just one of those f****** hiccups man you got to deal with.

Same here bro! I am too careful.... but don't know what I did wrong! No place left to scratch and think what I did wrong.... :w00t:

Why no one made stickers for boomboxes when it is handicapped?

I need to put a sticker on a few of mine.

The lesson I learned is that if the cassette is not working....... leave that box alone unless you have the talents of Norm, Eric or James. :w00t:

Thanks Rimmer36!

I know! But .....it only worries me if I try to record. Everything else works like a charm. I am trying to trace my mistake......

That is what makes me wonder!

Thanks Rimmer!

I did it several times when this was happening. I did like 20 times minimum. I left it aside yesterday and will take a look at it today.

Once I turn volume low everything works like a charm! No noise when I use microphone for recording.

So, I have to keep volume low when I record with microphone.

I am happy with that! The unit sounds like new and looks like new, so I would leave it alone and stop worrying!
