Anyone mind giving their opinion on which 1-piece box has the best bass. Something with that heavy kabuki styling and LED meters, I'm looking for ideas on what my next treasure hunt will be.

Something ranging between 1978 and 1985, that seems to be the years of style I like most. I want something with some good punch though. When I say Kabuki, I mean lots of chrome too, something like this RT-8890S but with more bass.

Best one piece bass - Hitachi 3D8. The 3D8 beats the RX-DT680 for the depth of bass and quantity of bass.

Styling wise, it’s not what you’re after but IMHO, 3D8 is what other boxes should be compared with if bass is your thing. :-)

JVC Floyd, you knew exactly what I was thinking, that TRC-920 is sick. probably gonna be hard to find but looks worth the search.

The first one that popped on Youtube was Reli's with the mirror bowl tape, dope as hell!

The TRC 920 is a great box , well built , heavy , loud but it sounds great . they look great , to say the least its a bad ass radio that can back up its looks with sound to match.

Ha ha thanks, but it's only a bassy midsize, it's not one of the bassiest boxes in general. For that, you're gonna need one of the bigger Lasonics, Conions or Tecsonics

I'm usually happy with my C100 but it just depends on where I set it. Seems like there are spots in the house where it seems lifeless but you move it two feet and bam! You find a sweet spot where it pumps out the bass. Over all the most punchy I have for the time.

I can promise you I’m not high. :-)

Put it this way, if you place the 3D8 on a table that’s positioned in the Centre of a large room, you don’t need to max out the left equalizer slider to get very solid and deep bass. Place the big Hitachi in a corner and wow, the bass is too much!

The RX-DT680 can’t compete for the depth of bass, it propably sounds nicer but it doesn’t provide that deep, deep bass at low volume levels. I can’t think of any other 1 piece box where you feel the need to turn down the bass, not because of distortion but because the low frequencies are overwhelming.

Outdoors in the centre of my backyard, the thing still sounds super bassy. Haven’t heard an RD MD5. I’m sure it sounds better still. :-)

Set the 100 hz slider to half on the 680 and max out the SBS, the MOST common mistake made is maxing out the 100 hz slider...i had the 3d you say brand new and although nice not a patch on the 680 lol....ahh you say 3d 8 lad, no i had a 3d7 lol...try the 680 trick if you haven't already :-)

and 80's 1 piece m90 is the king, goes without saying lol

The 3D7 can’t match the 3D8 for bass - the 3D7 is bassy but the 3D8 is next level.

I’ve had 5 680s and I’ve tried every slider/SBS position combo and well, the 3D8 still goes deeper.

Don’t ask me how or why but a 12V 3D8 does go deeper - maybe it’s the long throw 16cm main driver that sits in a huge cabinet?!77433350-59E4-4147-908A-73DF119E60D3.jpeg

It must be the bigger driver. Maybe that’s why everyone rates the sound from the Panasonic C100 over the 680 - bigger 16 cm drivers?!

ahh the 680 sounds better to me than the 100 Jim but the 100 is louder and it's silver.....basically you can't compare the 2

I found a Tecsonic J-1 here near me in pretty good shape, the guy is asking 250.00, is that worth the price?cosmetically it looks solid, has a few functional issues!
