Hey Geoffhartwell, there is a couple ways you can do this. You can remove the whole chassis like you mentioned or you can remove the circuit board and then lower the plate that holds the motor and replace both belts without removing the chassis. I have done this several times. Keep in mind you will need a 90 degree pick or a belt tool. If you want to replace the counter, run display belt, you will need to remove the chassis.

The best way is to remove the chassis. It can be done both ways in a fair amount of time. There is a spring on the outer belt on the large pulley you should watch out for. The pulley is attached to a shaft, so the spring will not come off unless you remove the pulley all the way. I have rebuilt a c-100 and they are really not that hard to repair once you see how everything goes. Keep in mind, if you remove the chassis make sure you label all of the plugs because i assume this is your first time. Also make sure you open the cassette door before you remove the chassis to keep from breaking the eject arm. I prefer leaving the chassis in because i have done this several times and it only takes me a few minutes to do. I can acually remove the chassis in about 5 minutes so either way works for me. Hope this helps

Actually the alarm is pretty simple. Hit the alarm button and wait about 30 sec to a minute and walk near it and it should sound. If not , there may be a problem with it.
