Hi all! Yesterday I came across a Sony CFS-500 in amazing condition at a thrift store for $8. It even had the original power cable. Everything seems to be functioning correctly except the tape player. It won't rewind or forward with a tape in it. I was going to replace the belt inside, but I can't find any info on the size or part number for it. Searching CFS-500 on eBay was no help and I was unable to locate an online service manual for it.

Does anyone know what belt this uses and where I can order one?

this is what the book says but i think one belt is not enough but hope this helps
Thank you for the info!

After looking that item up, it says that the belt is a square belt. I'm not sure this is the exact belt I am looking for. The belt on the tape player appears to be a longer flat one, similar to the ones in this picture:

Thanks! This gives me a direction to look. I'll pull out the belt and measure it to see if it's close to that. I see there are plenty of those listed on eBay.

I'm still having trouble finding a suitable belt for this boombox. I cut the original belt and got a measurement of about 11.75 inches for the total length. According to the service manual, the part number is 3-564-304-00 BELT (S1), CAPSTAN. I tried searching that part number and came up with no results. I also couldn't find any 11.75 Capstan belts on eBay.

If it's an original belt,11.75 is likely too long and worn out, and you really do need 10.5. I've had larger old belts easily gain an inch or more.
The nice thing about belts is you can always find out the length yourself if all other avenues fail.
Just take a piece of wire or string and wrap it snugly around the belt path, mark where they overlap and measure between the marks.
Subtract about 5% and you have the belt size.

If you order the variety pack of belts from studio sound electronics.com they usually have at least one belt that works in the set they send.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out the the belt info! I ordered a 10.5 belt and that seems to be the one to fit.

Fast forward and reverse work perfectly, but the playing still does not. The idler wheel on the bottom right that moves the right spindle when the cassette is in play is having issues. My guess is that the rubber on the wheel has deteriorated and is not making good contact. Can I just replace the rubber ring, or do I need to replace the whole roller? Also, if anyone might know the exact size or part for the rubber ring, that would be a great help. I can try to take it apart and measure it if need be. I have the part number from the service manual, but it's for the whole idler assembly and I couldn't find anything when I searched for it:

X-3561-801-0 IDLER ASSY, FWD
