As many of you know, my original white M70 was run over by my wife's SUV. I was able to salvage some of the internals but externally it was toast. Thanks to my friend Gordie I was able to complete this project and the white M70 is reborn! Everytime I paint a box I learn something new. It literally takes hours of sanding and prep work to get a boomer ready for paint. If the surface is perfectly smooth the paint looks buttery smooth. My process involves using heat to dry each individual coat I apply, including the clear coat. I apply 4 light and even coats of paint and 3 coats of clear. This will result in a glass smooth, very hard finish, and cut down on the curing time. Anyone who has successfully painted a box knows how much labor goes into it. For me it is a labor of love as I will get years of enjoyment out of having a one of a kind boombox.....enjoy the pics...and believe me the pics do not do this one justice!!

Very nice! Too bad JVC didn't make them in different colours - they probably would sell a lot more of them :-)

I'm thinking of painting a handle
does the paint on the handle hold up well
with all the handling?
did you clear coat the handle as well?

...the paint on the handle holds up very well. I haven't had any problems yet...and yes, I usually apply a couple coats of clear on the handle. Duplicolor makes a nice, hard, all purpose clear coat...gets hard as nails.

whats the brand and code # for the back color --??
that looks great , also
:agree: that to me was the one thing that stood out more than the white was the silver back ,i painted the back of one my gf 777's almost the same silver it made the box look more awesome and cool, to me a silver box really should have a silver back panel the aiwa cs 880 has the silver back it just looks so nice that way.
