playback speed changes

I have a National/Panasonic RX-5010F and a few other boomboxes that change speeds while playing. They start out fine then slow down then go back to normal and then slows down again. The belts are fine. Any suggestions. Can a bad capacitor be an issue?

Sometimes you have to turn the speed control back and forth several times before you set the speed because if there's a contact problem in the motor turning the speed control back and forth several times clears it up . it might not work every time but it sure helps.

Slipping belts, slipping tires and slipping pinch roller can cause issues. Best thing is full restore of deck with new belts and either cleaning or replacing tires and pinch roller depending on condition. Look for dirt, dry and cracks in rubber from age.
