I was able to buy 2 Philips D8614 for the modest sum of 20€ (both for 24$).
The cassette deck is defective on both machines. The plastic of the mechanical elements is of poor quality.
On one of them the handle is missing. So I decided to "pimp it" !

After removing all the electrical and mechanical parts. Protected with masking tape the parts not to paint.
The dress code will be RED.

The cassette deck being out of order, I decided to use the space to put an equalizer LED.
I sacrifice a cassette to integrate the circuit.

I used a USB charger to power the LED tape, and I took the opportunity to add a USB port on the back of the boombox. We can also see on the picture the new handle that replaces the missing one. The antenna has also been replaced by a new one.

You beat me to it great idea with the cassette. Can you fill in a few of the blanks. Where do you pickup the input signal from and does it work for radio and line in? What is the eq module and where can you get them from.

Hi hopey, for the input signal of the "tape" i pickup in the outspeakers entry (works for radio, line in) also used for internal spearkers. I solder the signal arrivals on the internal circuit.

Ooh so it's volume sensitive high resistance load. Does it affect the the speaker volume?
No it does not change anything ... I have two D8614, a modified one and an original, and the sound is the same on both !
