For me, 2017 was a wild year.
It started with a monster meet at Venice beach with all my west coast collector friends and progressed to the UK meet where I met a whole new crew and then onto the German collector’s scene full of colorful stories and even included the single solitary Italian collector!
I had the opportunity to twist volume knobs with collectors of more nationalities than I could count. I found it to be simply amazing to see and learn these different styles of collecting. From people who are super passionate about having the absolute best examples of the highest end, feature packed boxes where only a 10 will do, to collectors that are so prolific at customization, that it is on an art form level worthy of the Louvre. I saw displays of every iteration of the “GF-777†style four speakers, deck in top corner layout from countless brands that I never even knew issisted, to a display of five M90’s on a perfectly restored 1980’s Mercedes limo!
Weather couldn’t stop it. Borders couldn’t stop it. Distances couldn’t stop it.
I cranked radios in the USA, Italy, England, Germany and China.
What I found out was, the global phenomenon that gripped the world from 1978-1988 once again has a fist full of D-cell batteries and is taking no prisoners.
This past year my time was filled with packing up and moving to the other side of the planet. It was filled with boombox meets and China trips. It left me little time to post on Boomboxery. But returning to the forum and seeing so many new names listed proves to me that this hobby is still growing.
My plan for 2018 is to get back to work on my own collection. I have a C100 that was shipped to me from Trippy1313 that I need to dive into. I have 1st and 2nd gen Lasonic TRC-931’a that need full restorations and ton’s more I want to handle. I also have a local technician I want to feed radios to one at a time.
I would also like to get a few issues of Boombox Magazine out this year since I finally have all my official copyright documentation from my filling.
2018 should be a good year. Looking forward to more involvement with the forums again.
Lastly, I want to say thank you to everyone I cranked up with this year. From California to the Soviet side of the Iron Curtain.
In 2018.....we're gonna get our BLAST on!
