You can NEVER give up!

Every day, several times a day...(for several years now) I've gone to eBay and typed in Conion just to see what pops up. Well yesterday this popped up with a Buy it Now Price that had me going and I think I broke my mouse button.



I'm so happy.. Yes the cassette decks need help but all else is working (according to the seller 100% positive feedback). I'm stoked!!! While I will not disclose the final price I can say that it had my wife smiling ...including shipping!!!!! and that's hard to do.

Finally Goldie will have a twin sister in Silver

She's not in Goldies shape but I'll take it. Worth a gamble on whether it's belts keeping the decks from working or not. If not I'll enjoy it as a stereo with Auxiliary input option. And if worst come to worst...parts if needed. Either way. I'm a happy camper

Well guys...it showed up and I just couldn't help but to dig right in and start my repairs. I fixed the radio as the stations only came through as mono. It now plays the radio in stereo. All controls were cleaned with deoxit and restored to good working order. I had a belt for Tape 2 but none for the Tape 1 deck. So for now I replaced the belt on Tape 2, adjusted the tape speed and azimuth and had to clean the mechanical switch that selects the audio from side one to side two. This got that deck singing after many years of non use. And it plays VERY well.

As of now other than cosmetics it just needs belts for tape 1.

I chose this because I didn't know if it was going to eat a tape and I didn't care about that one...lol Happy so far It'll be nice once I get the belts for the lower deck. Spinning it by hand it seemed to run through all of the functions.

I was able to find a way to change the belt on the middle deck without pulling the chassis. Took 15 minutes and I was done with that belt.

When I first brought the upper deck out of it's coma it did all kinds of weird things. Played muffled, often only on one channel, hummed and made crackling noises through the speakers while playing. The humming and background noise would get worse or better simply by touching any of the front knobs.

Long story short. Muffled issue was solved by adjusting the azimuth (which is simple once you know to use the holes through the circuit boards to the adjustment screw) but the humming and static I isolated to the selector switch circuitry that selects which pickups in the head to use. The switch was dirty internally and it was causing a ground issue and extra noise.

Not wanting to take the switch apart and remove soldered wires I opted to blast the heck out of it with tuner cleaner. Flipped the switch back and forth 20 times and whalla. Humming gone and channels work the way the are supposed to work on playback (both sides).

I have noticed on both my C100's that the upper deck will always have more static hiss in the background due to this pickup design. By it's very nature increases noise levels but it gets insane when the contacts get dirty.

Azimuth adjustment cleaned up any reverse track noises and crispness, deoxit on the pickup head switch repaired the humming. The top deck plays perfectly. Crisp highs and deep lows. I was amazed. Hope this helps
