Just wanting to share my excitement...
With a bit of luck, 90% confirmed, I'll be the proud owner of a VZ2000x and a 3000
Fingers cross. I can't sleep.

Question on the color of the speaker cones... Did they originally come out in both red and black?

Our Aussie VZ2000s have the cool red drivers.
I think I'm falling for the red!

Yes! Picked up this beauty! Working condition but needs a service and belts.. Another project to work on.
Hopefull if all goes well, by the end of this week Ill have 2 VZ2000s. Black and red! Definitely falling for the VZs
This is soo addictive. Spending all my time reading through this forum, online 2nd hand shopping sites and weekends going between thrift markets
I love it

Excellent finds. I pretty much fully rebuilt a 3000 recently so if you need any pointers let me know. I had tons of issues with the both sides play / repeat etc on the turntable so I know a bit about that especially...

Thanks for the offer!
So far the turntable won't fire up or open up/eject...and the volume dial prob needs a touch up, speakers are distored

Yep, my speakers distorted horribly. Check your DC on the outputs, mine was sky high. Caused by bad filter caps on the power amp board. I pulled the amp on mine and recapped it - sounded awesome after. I measured the voltage on the inputs of the STK power pack amp and it was in the order of 40 volts or so - not great for speakers !! Replacing the caps dropped it to nearly nothing.

You say the TT won't fire up ? What's the issue ? Will the door open / close ? Can you manually open by sticking a rod into the hole in the back ? On mine, the door wouldn't open because two of the three door position switches were broken. This meant that the CPU could not work out whether the door was open or closed. In turn, this condition meant that the gear change solenoid did not operate to switch the motor from tone arm drive position to door open / close position.

My TT needed two new door position micro switches, two transistors, a relay and several other bits to get it going. Needed a belt too.

some of my threads on Audiokarma (I think there's one on here too)

Someone somewhere said these units are just a collection of engineering mishaps just waiting to go wrong - I disagree, I think they contain some very clever engineering which perhaps could have been made better by using higher quality parts in some places.

Thanks for the awesome reply. Was planning to recap the amp section..
The turntable won't switch on or open... Only with the stick through the back.. Otherwise nothing works in relation to the TT

I would definitely check those door switches then. See if any power is going to them, I think its around 5 volts, because you could have a more basic issue of power supply problems. I replaced all the caps on my supply too. Check the pin outs of the control chip too - I assume you have the service manual ? Its pretty good and helped me heaps.
