Hello all, it's been a while since I've been about.

I've picked myself up a Sony FH7 which doesn't work. The problem is that the unit makes an almighty buzzing from the speakers when I power it on, I took it apart to see what's going on and it looked filthy, so I've given it a good clean and noticed that resistor R128 has been replaced with two paralleled resistors so I'll be swapping that out tomorrow and see if it helps.

Is there anything else that I should be looking for to cure it?

Exactly, Nick. Even without bulging, they can be toast, which makes life even more headbangy LOL
Looks like five 2200uF caps, three at 25V and two at 42V.

Caution, thank you, I'll get everything by the end of the week and fingers crossed have a working FH7 by Sunday.

Nick, is SMPS the speaker type?

I've swapped the caps for new ones and replaced the resistor, cleaned the record bar and I'm still getting a buzzing sound when I power it on. None of the lights or tuner display works on the front of the machine. Anything else I can try?
