Hello all...I have just received a Sharp GF 9191 and it is playing slightly slow. Musically noticeable...its killing me. What a disappointment.

I think I need to just have it properly serviced. The add said "works perfectly" (sigh)

I need to know if anyone can help me find someone in London that can do the job properly.

I cant find the correct place in the forum to post...can anyone help out.

Thank you!

Try tech section under sharp...

I think youll find repair men few and far between......they are gradually disapearing....

If I can assume that your a collector, you are better off repairing boxes yourself...

We all started at the beginning without any real knowledge....There are loads of posts on here about fixing and repairs....

Just a tip....when your taking stuff apart. take loads of photos so you can refer back...

Good luck and welcome to the madhouse

Jay I'm afraid Dave is right, it's getting harder and harder to find repair people. Sending it to a trusted UK member might be an answer although i know people have had good experiences here:

Its in your neck of the woods to.

I don't remember as its a while since i serviced my 9191 but i beleive it has a speed control on rear of motor. It may require a full service however with belts, pinch roller, clean and lube the transport and re lube the motor.

If you feel like attempting it yourself let me know and i'll crack mine open and try to guide you through.

9191's are easy to work on, I've done several. It's a good one to start on and we can keep you right. I'm at the other end of the country otherwise I'd do it for you

You guys are the best!!!! Took me ages to get into this forum man this is incredible. Thank you

Basically the seller says...

“Good evening,
It was changing the belts, pinch roller, capstan and engine.
Make it looked at by your repairer and keep me informed.
Cordially.”

And I spoke with a really great and informative repairman who said knowing that it could be a speed thing, like you guys mentioned.

I’m pretty capable with things as long as it’s not “take off panel four mystery screws go flying” I could do it.

I’d be happy to pay for a Skype session? Is that crazy?

You can see I’m desperate... I’ve got so little time to myself with kids, job, and the eating and sleeping thing that doing it myself would be incredible.

It all depends who's been in there in the past doing the 'repairs'. There's specific issues with this deck. For example, the 5mm capstan tube that's used must have the correct specs: 5mm OD, 2mm ID. Even using a piece of tube with a larger 3mm ID can cause slippage resulting in an unstable or slow playback speed.

Even experienced techs can be unaware of the special requirements noted above.

I suggest you ship the complete box to a willing Boomboxery member who can fix it right.

James.... :-)
