This past weekend my wife and I along with some friends we have met in Italy took a drive south down to Sicily. I have been speaking with Boomboxery member Sal, hoping to meet up. I wasn't sure were about's we would be staying, but as luck would have it, we were only 35-40 minutes from Sal's place, so he came and met us for dinner and ended up coming back to the house we rented for a glass of wine.

Here we are at the restaurant. I was traveling with the Clairtone 7979 so the party would have music at the rental house and yes, I took it to the restaurant.

Sal was traveling with this Sanyo 6 speaker M 7740L which he was kind enough to gift to me

It was great to finally meet Sal face to face. We plan to meet up again, hopefully at the end of October as he has business in Naples and I have offered him a place to stay and come see my collection.

He is also holding a Boombox exhibition in Sicily in May that I am hoping to get down to see, maybe bring a few boxes to contribute.

Sal, thank you for the wonderful Sanyo, I look forward to spending some time with it. I think this will become my new travel companion, as it has all the features I need on the road with the line in and fully working cassette deck! Perfect size to carry along and still fills the room with quality sound.

Chris has been in Italy for over six months, but for various reasons we didn't meet until last week. To be honest, I write "we" but in fact it is me who has been unable to find a window of opportunity to go to Naples. So when last Friday he sent a pic he took along the road ("Do you recognize this place?", he added, ignoring that that place was at about 3/4 of an hour from where I live) I didn't think twice to join his company.

What to say? I was overwhelmed by his enthusiasm, expertise and generosity. When I told him that my long postponed project for a boombox exhibition will materialize next year, he offered to help in any way possible (details about the event will be posted in due time for the benefit of all members. For now I can give you a month -- May 2018 -- and a place -- Catania).

Needless to say, while we chatted, drank wine & enjoyed dinner with his wife and his friends, I was blinded by the sheer beauty of his 7979 (and yes Rori, it's very likely the first specimen to have ever graced the shores of the island).

So Chris, what can I say? Thanks for sharing with me your beautiful Clairtone (now alas one more unicorn in my wish list) and even more thanks for what you have already put in motion for the next year event. I'm delighted to read that you like the 7740. It was not chosen at random, as for the occasion I wanted to present you with a unit that was not in your collection, easy to carry along, in good cosmetic conditions, full working, and of a certain brand. Why? You may as well ask why Si and Rori call me Sanyovar... 'nuff said! :-) (and yes Si, we'll meet in March at the UK meet).

Brilliant, glad to see two cool cats meeting up. I kinda knew if there was a box involved than Sal would bring a Sanyo. Thats an awesome gift with all the features needed for a travel box.

Look forward to meeting you in March Sal!

It was really great to meet up with you Sal, of all the people I have met in Europe, your the closest and the last one I have met LOL. But we WILL do this again because you have to see my collection and I need to see yours.

I'm very interested in your exhibit in May, if I can be there, then I will certainly be there and hope to bring something else that has never been to the island. Like a stack of Jumbo Lasonic's!

And to everyone who has chatted with Sal here and on Stereo2Go, I just have to say....Sal is a super nice guy, when you UK guys meet him,. you'll be instant friends as I feel.

As for the 7740, this is my new travel box. I have traveled with many mini's over the years, never with one that has a working tape deck. So this Sanyo will get some miles put on her. Thank you again Sal.

It's kind of wild to think that the 7979, that I got from THAFUZZ in Califonia was the first in Sicily. I guess your going to need to get one now

For all the collectors who have been here since the start of this hobby, the real "First Generation" guys, I was thinking of you all when Sal and I talked radios. I consider myself to be a "Second Generation" collector, because I came in after this whole thing was in full swing. But I am proud to have caught up quick and met so many fine collectors in the US and in Europe. Thank you everyone!

Always Nice to see Great members to meet up !!
What a kind gesture of you Sal to hand the Sanyo to Chris :-)
I think that the exhibition, when it will take place,
should be documented for the Boombox magazine.
BTW you look great , both of you !
I mean with those totally different bboxes
the huge one and the mini one .

Took the words right out of my fingers Fatdog! It's occasions like this that remind me why I like this hobby so very very much.
Dits speaks truth, Chris and Sal you both look fantastic and exactly where you want to be :chris920:
The 7740 is absolutely gorgeous. Having speakers on top of the case is so cool, it blasts UP at you as you walk with it!
Until I fixed my Bombeat mini recently I hadn't really lugged around a box of that size, but it's been getting a lot of play, I had no idea a mini could dish so much and do it so well.

As I have said before, I really urge other collectors to meet up with each other. It doesn't have to be a huge international or regional meet. It doesn't even need to be more than two people. Just a few radio's will spark great conversation and launch friendships. You will be SHOCKED on what it will bring out of you.

Sal and I are already working towards the next get together!

Thanks for all your comments guys....your all still the best! :hooray:
