So, im sure what im looking for doesn't exist else i would of seen someone mention it but anyway here goes.

I was thinking about how inconvenient 8 D batterys are, charging them 4 at a time in my charger, its a real pain. Is there any after market battery i can use?

I would like to be able to move it from box to box without modifying my boxes, maybe something with clips that attach to the existing terminals? Am i dreaming or is there something out there?

Just a little unclear of what you are looking for. You are looking for a single 12v battery pack in the shape of two rows of 4 D cell batteries? Or just a 12v lithium pack you can use from one box to another? Or?

You can use easy an Li xx Batterie.

Where's the problem? The only thing is the capacity not more. Depend on the size.

There so much possibilities to realize the idea. When you use an ordinary 3s Lipo as source you have more power than the box consumption is. You can also use Lion batteries they are easier to keep.
I prefer lipo battery. But you have to avoiding against to less voltage. Easy with an lipo alert or lipo checker.....

And absolute not expensive......and when you take the right size you can easy put it inside the battery box. A connector you can easy create by yourself....but this is only my opinion

You can get battery size reducers. This means you can use standard rechargeable AA That fit into a D size shell.

Your looking for a battery pack with clips on it ?
I was thinking of using battery packs for remote control toys
and add clips to it.
they have lots of current to run a boombox.

For charging 8 D cells in one go, I use the
Maha PowerEx MH-C808M
which is available on Amazon (.com, .de) and works very well.
As an alternative you could use 2 4-cell-chargers, which might be cheaper or simply have an extra set of D-cells - fully charged in "standby".

I know that Li-ion and LiPo batteries have some advantages which except the lower weight and smaller size do not fall into awe.
The checkers against low voltage consume power on their own, which is counterproductive and charging them with a balancing charger can be tedious.
The high current they can deliver is not needed and can destroy your boombox in case of a short circuit.

I would let the boombox in its original condition and take the lipos for you lawn-edge-trimmer or hedge-trimmer.
