So i saw this on Ebay UK and after missing out on what i planned to buy i bought this instead exceedingly cheap. She was pretty dirty on arrival:

Dismantled and in the shower with her, I did a hose down and a wash and the water was filthy, this was after the second hose down:

Cleaned up pretty good....

All today i have been tackling her, damn why are Sanyo's such pigs to rebelt !!!

This one took a while to belt as there was various bits of desoldering required and its just generally a pig. Still i got it done in the end and she played real nice. Cleaned the heads while dismantled and adjusted accordingly.

Now to tackle the speakers which looked horrid:

These i painted back to black with thinned paint, my usual method as its such a tin layer but looks stunning.

Turned out ok, still a bit of detailing to do but i was getting tired and called time for today. Added a new aerial and put her back together.

You've done a great job there Bro, a great days work.

Ive got one of these and its needed belting since I got it. One of the best sounding low volume radios (on radio) which ive owned though.

Good work Tre, this one turned out pretty good.
Yeah not bad for what it is and it was cheap enough. It's now very presentable and nice sounding.

Nice work, you've brought about an amazing transformation. I was going to ask about re-belting as this subject often crops up on these models so: What was the most difficult part of the re-belt or biggest headache and, of course, how did you overcome this?

Biggest headache is really the limited space to work in. Its not practical to de solder as many leads as you'd like so you only end up doing the essential ones and working within the confines with, in my case, dental tools. I only desoldered three wires, a really short one from the motor and an unknown secondary that had minimal slack plus the ground one to the tuner scale.

I loosed the main circuit board and lifted that as much as i could, then released the cassette mech from the front to provide a few extra precious mm's. Utter pain in the ass job though.

Awwwwwwwwesome! That was my first stereo boombox, I really miss her. Brings back some memories.

Great job on that rescue.

Not a huge fan of the traditional one piece boomers, but your transformation of that one might have convinced me to take a closer look at them. I really like the details on that.

I was eyeing one of these on eBay but your description of the belt fitting process has made me think twice. Maybe too much for a noob?
