All packed up

Some of you guys already know, but I thought I would share in the open forum.

The short story is this, 7 months ago we put an offer in on a short-sale house to buy that the home owner accepted. At the 5th month waiting (and anticipating we would get the house), we listed our house for sale. After being on the market for 2 weeks we sold ours. 2 weeks later we were told from the seller's bank for the house we wanted that they denied our offer. No counter offer, nothing.

Now we are in a situation. Our house is sold. We have no house to move into. All the other house options we like are $30k overpriced. So, we moved out and are living in our camper. All of our 'stuff' from the house is now stored in a 53' enclosed semi trailer.


Don't worry, the blasters are NOT in the semi trailer. I packed them into the camper and moved them to my inlaws basement for safe keeping.

My family of 4 is homeless but all together. We are saving thousands of dollars every month we stay in the camper which increases our buying power and when we do find the right place, we are ready to POUNCE on it with no strings attached on our end. Fingers crossed that this doesn't last more than 6 months and have father winter breathing down our necks when we are still in the camper.

Wish us luck. We need it.

Dang, that sucks that you're having to go through that! What's the status of the house you wanted, have you heard? Maybe the bank thinks it can get more money, but it's stupid that they won't even ask for a counter-offer. Or maybe the seller hasn't fully proven to the bank that they're incapable of paying the mortgage.

Sucks all the way around. But on the bright side, at least it's not winter!

Damn that sucks but, as ever you found a silver lining. You are saving thousands of quid and I bet the experience has bought you all as a family even closer together.

The right one will come along mate and you'll be ready to go AND happy you waited for the right thing.

After our offer of $150k was denied by the sellers bank, the seller really is burned out trying to save her credit before the house goes into foreclosure.

We begged the seller to let us hit this deal with another offer knowing this could take another 6 months to process. She said she would wait out trying the short sale again for us.

Somehow, through the grapevine of bank-lawyer-realtor-us, a conversation came up where the sellers bank came up with this:

"we will close for no less than $168,000"

This verbally came from the sellers bank. There was no counter offer from them, nothing on paper, so I have no idea why they would even mention this $168k number if there is no paper trail. I didn't really care at this point, but at least it looked like we could still have a shot at it.


I resubmitted another offer for $168k with no contingencies and sent it to the seller. She accepted this new offer that is $18,000 higher than our last one. It was signed and sent off to her bank 12 days ago.

Every short sale offer has to be submitted from scratch and go through the entire waiting process again. Could be weeks, few months, a year, who farking knows how long until we hear back.

I didn't want to cave in to a higher sale price because the $18k is out of pocket, BUT the next best house is over $200k. If I don't spend the $18k now and lock this deal in, we will have to spend $18k + another $30k to move into something even worth a damn.

Now we wait again.....

And double wow that yours is the equivalent of £107,000 in uk money...that's a helluva lot of house for that compared to here. Uk house prices stink lol

The houses in Fox Lake, WI are cheaper because it is a small town. Only about 1,500 people live here. It was a great first house to remodel and make our own, but it is time to move on.

It is a 1995 SE Ford Contour with some SVT body parts on it, but yes, I still have it. Been with me for 17 years now.

She got collector plates (blue) a couple years ago because it hit 20 years old.

You are right, we do have another house that is a rental property and it is right next door. But that House puts money in the bank so it wouldn't make sense for me to kick out my renters. We will try to tough it out this Summer in our camper and hope we find a house before winter gets here.

I tell you what, you do get a lot of house in your town for under $200,000!! You can't buy anything around here for less than $600,000 - bloody rediculous!

I'm sorry you have to go through this Joe. If that house doesn't sell to you, look it up in a year, it will have sold for less than you originally offered.

Happened to me twice. There were two houses I remember offering asking price, one took a month and denied the offer, the other told me the next day no. Both at asking price!!! I asked for closing costs was all. No counter, just plain no. We eventually got a house, but I looked it up a year later, they both eventually sold, but one for 20k less, and the other for 30k less than I offered. Morons.

Anyways. I hope this clears up and you get this or another house real soon. That's a sucky situation. But I guess you're saving money in the meantime!

Dang. I just looked at your listing, that's insane how nice your house is for that price. Depending on the cities here, that would probably sell for 200 in Tacoma, to 600+ in Seattle easy.

Man what a mess, I hope you're all able to make the best of it. If things don't work out by winter are there decent places to rent in the area?

Yeah, if your car survives 20 years of Wisconsin weather, they reward you with letting you get collector/hobby plates in only 20 years. With those plates I don't have to pay the annual registration on the car. Pay the collector plate fee of $200 once, and you are done.

Honestly, I won't even look at a place to rent. I never have rented myself but grew up with my mom renting everywhere until we were 10/12 years old. It was hard on us looking back at it now and I have the mindset that I won't rent because of it.

I bought this house right after my 21st birthday in 2004, no money down, 30yr fixed rate @ 6.25%, no credit history and making only $13/hr at the job I was at for only 3 months. I was turned down for a home loan 7 times before I found a place to take my mortgage. Persistent to say the least! hahaha

My dad lives about 35 minutes from work and he is recently divorced and has a 2500+ sq ft, 5 bedroom house on 10 acres and a couple of my brothers still live at home part time. If winter is approaching, I will pack up our necessities and move into there to continue saving every penny we can to throw at a new home whenever that day comes.
