Sure hope it's no one on here but I simply asked a seller on eBay about a Panasonic cassette walkman whose ONLY description was "Working". It was almost up to 50 dollars so I asked the seller....

Does it perform like new? How does it sound? Does it play properly?

I get a reply back "What? Its 40 years old...how can it work properly?"

Well come over to my house buddy and you'll see lots of 40 year old equipment and OLDER performing exactly the day it did when NEW.

People these days. I could advertise and sell a car and say it "works". After the sale the customer finds out you have to open the drivers door from the inside, the engine is running on 4 out of 6 cylinders and blows smoke out the back. Yep it "works" and goes down the Rd.

Basically his reply says it all. Obviously it slurs and eats tapes but it "works"

He then replies with "remote has worn lettering on the face...do not bid"

No problem bud. There is a big difference between working and working well. Smart people figure that out before wasting their hard earned dollars on vague descriptions.

At least when I buy from members on this site they accurately go over any and all issues

why promote it?....link removed

This is why shopping for electronics on ebay is a huge gamble. Most of the sellers don't actually collect and will hide a lot of problems or be completely unaware of them. I've bought, like, three walkmans on ebay, all of which I received refunds for because the sellers were dishonest or didn't even test the machine.

I agree. I have always wanted a properly functioning sophisticated high end walkman. This one was in the price range but I would be disappointed if I played a tape and guitars sounded like they were playing a set of bed springs and shiat......ya know? I've been on this planet long enough and got ripped off enough that I for sure am not going to take "working" as working well. And the rudeness when I tried to clarify what "working" meant. I take the rudeness as my answer. Obviously I struck a nerve because there was some deception to the vague description of "working" and I spotted it.

Sorry if I am offending anyone on here (if you are the seller). I would've paid you 65 dollars just to know I was getting a properly working unit but now I wouldn't let you pay me to take it.. I am a super nice guy but I don't tolerate rudness unless I do something stupid and deserve it.

Oh well. No harm. The seller is right. I can't be disappointed if I don't buy it.....I just feel bad for the "winner" of the "working" Panasonic.

I recall winning an auction for a mint condition WM-F1 for a great price. The description specifically stated that everything was working and in like-new condition. A day later the seller messages me saying that after "further testing", the cassette playback doesn't work at all. So, all that hype for nothing
