Well, I have finally gotten a chance to unpack all the radios....and here they are...

IMG_20170418_143307.jpg

I need to buy some proper shelving and begin the process of displaying them.

But first I need to bench test every radio to make sure they survived the trip. So far, everything looks good with the exception of the Lasonic TRC-922 which has a rattle in it. I need to open it up and see what the deal is. Other than that, no smashed cases, no pushed in speaker grills.

More too come!

I do have to say, there was one moment of blood freezing panic in all of this.

All the boxes marked "Boombox" were placed in what is/will become the new Boom Room. I did find a box or two up in other rooms, but brought them down to the "Bass"ment (as Freddie calls it).

The pile was extensive as you can see...

IMG_20170403_124447.jpg

As I unpacked, box after box, I could tell what was in each wrapped up package. "Oh, this is the SCR-8" before I pulled the paper off. "Oh, this is the TRC-975" ect. I was thinking to myself, "Man, those guys that wrapped these radios really did do a nice job". They were uniformly wrapped, so unwrapping was the same pattern over and over. They used thick padded paper on the big stuff, nice padding in between the radios. In my mind, I was really praising these guys for their hard work.

There were extra large boxes that had two Lasonic Jumbo's per box, or the J1 and the Helix 4700. I was methodically going through box after box, separating them via size. But when I started nearing the end of the pile and the really large boxes were thinning out, I realized....

NO WHEELY!

I stopped what I was doing and grabbed the last few large boxes, but there was no way the Wheely would fit in a box that had a TRC-935 in it. The blood literally drained from my head. The sweat on my body turned ice cold and the first thing that came to mind is...

"That mother farker who wrapped up my radios RIPPED THAT ONE OFF!"

My mind went from praise to PISSED! All I could think of is "That bastard snagged that one radio! THE BIG RADIO!"

I immediately ran up stairs, searching room to room. But I had already unpacked most of the house. About 90% was unloaded! The radio's were left for last. I went through my wife's office, it had a few boxes, but nothing that big. Only one really large box, but I know that had a large pendulum clock in it and I could here the chimes just by shaking it.

I ran up to the bedrooms. Only a few smaller boxes and one wardrobe box...ONE VERY LARGE, OVER SIZED WARDROBE BOX!!!!

I moved a few things to get to it, spun it around and sure enough....the wardrobe box was marked "Large Single Boombox"!!!!!

Damn it! That freaked me out!

But how farking AWESOME is it that the only way to ship a Wheely Dynasty HT-959 is in a WARDROBE BOX!!!!!

And yes, I did feel bad for tinging the worst about the guy who packed my radios because he indeed did do a totally kick ass job. In fact, with the exception of that rattle in the 922, only one drinking glass and a small plaster fountain got broken! Not bad....not bad at all.

I'm still organizing the garage, then work can begin on getting to work on repairing radios again.

It's a start....I'm still pretty stressed out living here. Even with a mega alarm system, steel security shutters and eight 1080p video camera's around the property, I'm still worried I could lose all this stuff! :'-(

I'm glad the collection, and the rest of your things, made the trip with minimal damage. Now, it might be time to start looking into getting a rather large dog - German Shepherd or Rottweiler.

Great news that these all survived the trip even if your nerves didn't!

I hope your in a nice neighbourhood and the alarm etc is just a precaution. I think its natural to feel weird in a new place but you'll soon settle in.

Glad all is well bro.

Man, if we were staying longer than 3 years, I would get a dog, but we don't even know where we are going after this, so I don;t want to get attached to a dog or have a dog get attached to us. But one thing is for sure, a German Sheppard would keep EVERYTHING out of the yard!

That is totally awesome news Chris. It worried me a bit watching them pack 3 or more into a box. Lol
I'm with ya Bill. With these types of moves, we can't pack our own stuff. Even the stuff I did pack, they unpacked and then repacked. Super stressful. Now I have to hope that the people who pack us up 2 years and 10 months from now do as good of a job!

We are in the country, which is good and bad. Very quiet, but not many neighbors to look after things. All I got for protection is a Hickory Ax Handle! But I guarantee, if I swing and connect, it's "Johnny Jelly Brains" after that! :bang:

Get a good tirapugni and serve brains with a side of ground beef, lol.

Glad to see the transfer is complete, that picture has a bit of a "come at me bro" feel to it, like Europe is about to get seriously blasted!!

Looking real good there. That looks kinda similar to the Apartment I stayed in on the Naval Support site at Naples. I noticed you said you been to Okinawa too, are you active duty USN beard man?

We stayed ay the support site for 42 days before getting this house. My wife is a civilian working for the navy. That's why we are here.

Good deals!! Nice stack waiting to be displayed...
Oh man, you are reading my mind. I'm just not sure how I'm going to do it. I need to go have a look through the Boom Room threads for inspiration. I got rid of all those glass shelves I had. They wouldn't have helped me here anyway since the house is all concrete, so I can't hang anything from the walls. Probably going to be some free standing shelves. But it would be a lot of them. Thinking of thinning the heard. Get rid of the little stuff. :hmmm:

UPDATE:

Everything went across the work bench today, tested everything. Had a few issues will the lessor cared for radio's nothing serious to report. All the big boys are fine. So forward we go!

Here is the new "Re-stack"

Gland to see everything's ok Chris!

Thinning the heard is not always a bad thing, although it's a painfull process. But then you have more time for the ones you love the most!!

Your probably right, although I have never thinned the herd  . Since day one it's been hoard the herd. It's just a pain in the arse. The ones I would get rid of just aren't worth the effort of putting on eBay, selling for $30, packing up and driving to the shipping place. That times twenty????

It's kind of like marriage, "It's cheaper to keep her"

But we'll see.

Glad your collection made it intact (almost) to Italy.

It seems forever since your packing posts and Vids :-)
All things considered, it wasn't bad. I did open the 922 today and as expected, the transformer was busted off. It's fixable and on the bench right now, so tomorrow it will be repaired.

IMG-20170422-WA0030.jpeg

Not bad, all things considered.

Hey there Chris, glad to see not much drama happened to you collection. As far as protection goes. I believe its not to difficult to purchase a long gun in Italy. No semiautomatics in military calibers for civilians. You should be able to get a nice side by side double barrel shotgun though. Probably in 16 or 20 gauge. That 16 gauge is damn near as powerful as 12. Its a bummer you couldn't bring your Mossberg with you. Oh well just glad to hear you and your wife are settling in to your new diggs.☺
