Hi there!

Last week I got my old Palladium "micro boombox" back! She is in rather good condition, with only few bumps and bruises, and rather clean for a radio from 1985.
There are several things wrong with it (of course):
1) Volume pot is very scratchy
2) Tape does not run
3) ...there is strange wire and a switch in battery bay ?? it was definitely not there when I have lend her...
4) At least two screws are missing from the back.

She uses a puny TEA2025 amp. Nevertheless, I have found this amp back in 2000 in Cambridge-branded computer speakers...

Radio uses all-in-one chip:

The waxed thread has rather convoluted trajectory, I hope I will not have to reubuild it:

After removing two screws through the holes in the main board, finally the culprits for tape deck are visible: broken belt and leaf switch.

Well, You know the drill. Soapy water, brushing, cleaning the pots and switches with Kontakt60, and searching the web for tape belt and leaf switch. I'll keep you posted!

What, no pic of the strange wire and a switch in battery bay? How long had this been out of your possession? Did you buy it new in 1985, huh, didya? C'mon, you can tell me the story - I promise not to tell anyone else. :-D

Yeah, I got it as present back in the fall of 1985. I believe that my uncle bought it in Munchen (W. Germany at that time). She was crappy back then, just as is now. I remember my friend had Aiwa CS-600, and she was putting mine Palladium to shame.

OK OK I'll get you the wire&switch picture. I found out that it was jumping over broken leaf switch - probably someone wanted to use the tape. The audio head is rather dirty...
She was out of my hands for last 15+ years, borrowed. Turns out they were only using the radio for several years, probably because the belt was broken. She even has got the original power cable on.

I will have to fabricate new leaf switch, since this one looks like it is molded together with one plastic part that has tape heads bolted, capstan roller, etc. I have found out that I can use one rubber belt from jar of preserves instead belt - looks odd, but fits.6a.jpg

Thanx for the support!

The "mini stroke leaf switch" finally arrived! I got it in, and it fits perfectly. I could not get one, but a pack of six from e-bay for about 3€.ministrokeLeafSwitch.JPG

Unfortunately, both speakers had to be changed because the membranes were busted. Now to next restoration. Telefunken RC760 is already gutted and "having a bath", and I am looking for replacement belts for the tape deck - from 1986.

Very nice but using rubber bands, like your yellow one, dont usually work and can cause a warble in deck with one exception for the counter. Best to purchase right size belts

I understand, and I am going to. This one works for the moment, and I need also belts for TFK RC760 and Sharp GF-8080, so I'll order them and replace them when they arrive.

Edit: By the way this one is rather similar to another 1985 vintage micro box: Sanyo M6900.
