Hi all,

I'm a musician who grew up in the 1980s around boomboxes. Many memories of dubbing cassette mixes, taping radio segments, and playing basketball while listening to music outside on a boombox during my childhood.

I like to treasure hunt at estate sales and flea markets and such things, and it is always fun to find an old relic and tinker around with restoring it. I'm always keeping an eye out for old audio receivers, turntables, stereos, etc and occasionally come across a nice old boomer. I found my way to this forum because I found a Fisher PH-W405 a few months ago at an estate sale. The boombox works great except that the belts on both cassette units need to be replaced. I began disassembling the machine this morning and started hunting for information on the correct belt sizes and that's what lead me here.

This is an excellent resource with what looks like a lot of friendly folks contributing! Looking forward to reading more and hopefully someone might be able to help me find the correct belt sizes for my Fisher so I can get the cassette decks back up and running. Cheers!

Welcome to the family, Adam!! :-)

The only thing I can find on the PH-W405 is that it needs two belts - SBS (square belt small) 4.9"

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Here are a few photos as I was taking the box apart yesterday (sorry for the shoddy lighting; my workspace is a basement with no windows). I removed the speakers but will get another pic up after I've got the unit all fixed and put back together next week. Fatdog, thanks for the belt sizes! Looks about right. Old ones were flimsy and gooey. I ordered two replacements from TurntableNeedles.com.

Welcome!! Looks easy enough but if i were you i would clean everything as well and also check all rubber parts (tires and pinch rollers) plus clean and Demagnatize tape heads for superior sound. ;-)
