It was an impulse buy due to the recent loss of my GE Boombox. I picked up a Toshiba 7077 in very good working condition for $100. Its a dual cassette box from 1987. I may have overpaid a little but I hope not. All comments welcome, I have never owned a Toshiba before.

Was it the white version?
No, its all black.

I wanted to go home and research the price a little but some college kid was eyeing the box really hard. He actually started negotiating with the guy and he wouldn't budge from the $100. I don't think they were playing me, I walked off a good distance and didn't show my interest in the box at all. When the kid left to go to the ATM, I walked over and gave him $100 and split the scene.

Where do Toshiba's run on the quality tier? bottom, middle or top? I have been a GE, Panasonic, JVC guy all my life. My home units have always been Technics. When I think Toshiba, I think television.

Toshiba made good gear of a compatible quality to the other leading brands. In general, the earlier the model of box you're looking at, the better the build quality (1975-1983) seems to be the sweet spot for performance & build quality.

Your Toshiba is from around 1987 which leaves it in the decline era for build quality for most brands. A major positive for your 3 piece Toshiba is the superior sound quality that is often found in later models when manufacturers were getting a handle on how to produce strong bass from portable boomers.

I'm sure with a little love, your Toshiba will be a reliable unit for years to come.

I don't know the box, but I pretty much feel for when I buy something, if I felt okay buying it at the time, then I don't worry about it. And if I wasn't sure at the time, and bought it anyways, then it doesn't matter, cause I have it now.

If it's a radio you seem to like, then I wouldn't worry about it. If you aren't impressed, sell it for close to what you paid.
