Hi all, can anyone please tell me is the motor on the sharp GF9191 speed adjustable on the rear of the motor or is this on the board?
My friends 9191 is a beauty its not long had the belts, pinch roller & capstan tube all replaced, but its deffo playing slow and by a fair amount also the FW & RW isn't that strong or fast considering its had all this done, thanks all. :thankyou:

It may be friction in the motor itself. Is the speed constant although slow? Does the pinch roller work well or can it be stopped easily with your finger tip?

Belt possibly little to tight. If i remember from one i had VR might be on small board of deck. Also check for hole in back of motor for it.

hi yes the speed is constant, no the pinch roller feels strong, its been replaced doesn't slip or stop without force.

There is no screw to change the speed so you need a specific belt to have the good speed. I think you must change the motor. But first try to lubricate the motor with WD40.

It's like a car that runs rough and people think they need to adjust the idle speed. Other engine issues are the problem, not the idle speed.

I've serviced around 15 of these decks. One guy brought a deck around that he had 'serviced'. It was playing slow. Turns out the 5mm tube he installed was too long and it was making contact with the alloy bearing housing it's installed into. After cutting the tube to the correct length (about half the length he had installed), the deck sounded great. I'd also lube the motor bearings with a little machine oil. These Sharp motors go a little stiff after sitting for long periods.

This is all assuming the correct length belts have been installed.

There is adjustment on the back of the flywheel you can back it off and check that the flywheel spins with little friction. This may save you taking out the capstan shaft. I still think its the motor, the belts have to be pretty tight to slow it down as described.

Thanks for your reply, i have not had a look yet, yes i wondered about the belt as the speed its playing the belt would i thought need to be really tight, i don't understand what you mean by FLYWHEEL is this the actual the heavy weighted wheel i thought was the capstan wheel?

The belt only has to have enough tension to avoid slippage. Excessively tight belts introduce drag and will slow down the deck. Any of the 3 belts can affect the speed. I wouldn't worry about adjusting the flywheel end float - it shouldn't need adjusting.

yes jimmyjimmy19702010 the belts are actually fine if anything to loose old age, the capstan tube that has been replaced was to long, I replaced the tube and belts but still exactly the same, looking at the deck I'm sure its got the wrong motor, the other 9191 I'm working on the motors smaller and has speed adjustment in the back of the motor the one iv got problems with doesn't,,, does anyone agree its possible the motors wrong, also appears to have a plastic arm missing that determines FF & RW god its a pain.

unsure but everytime I try uploading images it places them the wrong way around does my head in......,,,😕

PS the motor that has issues is the large one, without speed adjustment in the motor,,,,,

If you can make the auto stop work then I say the motor needs servicing. I think the motor is the correct one.

I would spend a $10 on a new motor with a speed control in the back of the motor, the motor is housed inside of the larger housing so you do is pop the cap off the back and the motor is inside .
