Hi, I'm new to this forum, looks like some helpful folk out there. I've just acquired a JVC RV-B55 bb, which has a tape deck problem.

Insert a tape, press play, just get a few clicks - same with autoreverse. FF and RW do nothing. Usually the door locks, and I have to power down and wait before I can remove the tape.

Also, when this happens, sometimes (but not always) the whole bb locks up, and no buttons respond. Again powering off clears it.

Just twice I've managed to get a tape to play, don't know how.

Do I have any chance of getting this fixed - could it need cleaning / servicing more than anything else, or is it likely to be mechanical / electronic, or both?

Everything else works fine, and the set is too good to trash. Do I assume that there would no parts available for this model?

I'm not expert in this kind of stuff, otherwise generally tech-savvy and DIY.

Appreciate any help. Many thanks,

Rog

Probably just needs belts, a good cleaning, and lube moving parts.
Logic and soft-touch decks are a lot more finicky than mechanical decks when it comes to old belts and hardened grease.
I wouldn't keep trying to get the deck to play in it's current state, as you may get the transport stuck in the "play" position. Kaboom decks are pretty easy to access and repair.
