This landed this week from a well known member of our community......cheers Dave
Nothing needed on this beauty apart from a speaker refresh as they was a bit faded,I give the grills a refresh as well!
A lot of work involved to get to these speakers but worth it!

For some reason the pics loaded the wrong way round!

Great job. I have some white/beige speakers from I bolt box that I'd like to refresh. What can I use and what's the best technique to do it?

I use a acrylic paint and water it down and apply it with 1" wide fine bristle artist brush.....it goes on more like a dye rather than paint, they look new when done and you could never tell they been ever painted!
I'll post up a pic of my kit

That conion has different tweeters than the usual ones I have seen. First time seeing that setup in a conion/clairtone , looks awesome though.

Will the water based acrylic swell the cone paper and slightly deform it? Try to wet a paper with the same paint and see how it deform it after drying.

Paper and water don't go well together. The binder/polymer in the paint will give some rigidity but still the water content in the paint can affect swelling of fibers.

I would use a thin layer of dull matte black solvent-based aerosol paint, which is much safer.

I'm curious what you're used to seeing, those tweeters look exactly like every set I've ever seen inside those boxes. The right tweeter has a foil-backed sticker to block its energy from the tuner board.

The clairtone I used to own , both the mids and tweeters were made of plastic, the mids did have normal magnets but the frame was plastic.

It was a clairtone 7980 and all the tweeters in it were cheap plastic I know they were original because they Clairtone stickers on the back of them, and so I thought all the conions had cheap-ass tweeters I was surprised to see the metal tweeters in that clairtone.

Stereomad that looks really nice and even. Do you make it thin enough that it soaks into the cone but not leave a coating?

Wow Floyd that is interesting, that's a major difference in the Clairtone. I can only think of three and they're all minor. The extra white antenna wire, the yellow stereo LED wire, and some reversals on the power board. I've seen missing amp board parts(small caps along heatsink and metal tape circuitry), but I don't know if that's Clairtone or just cost-saving on later Conion builds.

Yes the ones I had were black plastic tweeters and they had blue/greenish colored stickers that read clairtone. That box sounded ****ing rancid and it was not pleasant at all to listen to lol, I think the speakers were the cause.

I bought a set of C-100 woofers, MIds & Tweets, not sure which model they came from but had 5.4 OHM 8" woofers, 2.75" MIDs that were physically identical looking to the M90 tweeters & black plastic tweeters that were too light to have a magnet, which means they were piezo tweeters with a traditional paper cone & chrome dustcap....

Still want one that is original & fully working looking good etc...I have the older green dial version with the single deck & five tape holder door below....
