Hi all I'm new on here trying to get around the site good to be a part of this great site so much information, well please can anyone help with some advice, I recently bought a Panasonic CW 200, most of my little collection are Sharp as they've always been my favourite but I bought this as it's said to be an icon of the boombox world although in my opinion that's going a little to far, but problems started with deck 1 I found it started to play a little to fast so I kept playing it trying other cassettes after a while it was fine back to normal speed I then left it a day turned it on and the tape deck was playing fast but this time faster than before, same thing after say 20 minutes it's fine, this time it's been left 5 days I turned it on and the tape deck is playing at I'd say 5 time the speed well fast and even RW & FF is so very fast it's unbelievable, left it playing through in Auto reverse mode went back some 40 minutes later the speed is now slower than it should be, start stop it rewind and fast forward starts playing right speed then starts playing slightly slow, seems to be up and down, tape deck 2 currently is fine, it's so frustrating as it's a nice looking box and cost me way to much, can anyone help me with advice or is it passed it's sell by date and heading for boombox hevan 😱😢😢😢

That's a nice boomer. Auto Reverse are notorious for have issues with the logic of the tape deck. Does Auto Stop work? If so the belts maybe ok. First step would be to pull the box down and clean all contacts for the both Tape decks with some contact cleaner.

Hi hopey thanks for response, yes Auto stop works perfectly in both directions, I didn't realise the Auto reverse system was an issue in these, yes sounds a good idea to get in side and clean, I just wondered if the speeds are regulated on this model or adjustable either on the board or back of the motor, maybe it's like you've said a possible contact issue, I will have to open her up. Cheers bud

I've had a Sanyo box that had a deck that would play fast. After adjusting the resistor on the motor, it would return to the correct speed only to speed up again!

After a thorough contact clean of the motor adjuster, the motor is now maintaining the correct speed. Worth checking on your Sharp.

thanks jimmyjimmy19702010 think its a possibility as I can't think of any other reasons, I'm fairly new to the boombox stuff whilst I'm okay at mechanical things like taking apart putting back and belt changes the electrical side I struggle with
