Hitachi TRK-3D88

Hi all
I have had an issue with the sound on this unit being that the sound is okay through the radio and the dubbing selection but selecting the cd line in and tape the sound is so quite. I need to push the volume to the max to even get a hint of sound out of it.Today I've used contact cleaner on the selection switch and the record bar switch but the problem remains. Any one got any other ideas on what I can try thanks

Try spraying some contact cleaner into the headphone jack and then plugging in headphones several times. Also spray some into the rca jacks on your Hitachi. Then let it sit for a day or two andand then see if that helps.

I would try to temporarily bridge the the selection switch in order to find out if it is an issue with it.
Btw. the service manual of the TRK-3D80 is very similar and available for free. The circuit boards are almost the same.

I am currently working on the same machine. In my case the 3D-System is not doing to much. The LED switches on once the button is pressed, but there is nearly no difference in sound (bass expected).
I guess I have to change one ore more capacitors on the amplifier circuit board. Everything else is working well.

Thanks helmar I've had a look at the switch but can't understand how it switches I can see two metal bars that run inside the switch I take it the power goes from one side to the other side and underneath the switch is a lot of solder joints any help in identifying any of them so I can bridge the switch thanks again

I would give it a try and use a multi-meter in order to find out which soldering points are bridged. Usually each of the two rows points work separated from each other. No connection between them. As there are no other moving parts in the way of the music-signal in the case you described I would suspect that the switch is faulty.

Thanks once again looks like I will have to examine the switch in more detail I'm used to wiring switches up in a house as I'm an electrician but on a circuit board it's quite a head scratcher will put my multimeter on it and see what I can find 😀
