Hello
I’m in Fance and I recently bought a Sharp VZ 200 in pretty good condition for its age but the turntable was not working already. The tape, the tuner and the AUX are OK and the 4 speakers working.
When I first tried the record it didn’t work, I stoped it and start a few ties, open close the door, I saw the record turning verry slowly for a few second once but never again, I wasn’t able to move the tone arm using the buttons but I when I was playing with the other buttons (side A/B, repeat…) I could see the LED (green and reed) switching on and off.
So I order the 2 turntable belts,I'm almost certain they are the right ones the drive belt was sold on Ebay as a sharp VZ 200 drive belt and I order a square 4" tone arm belt through an american specialist website (forgot the name). I downloaded the service manual and started dissambling to give it a good cleanup and try to restaur it for my best friend 30th birthday !!
I didn’t break anything at least I think so, I totally dissambled it all the way to the speakers, cleaned the electronic with contact cleaner, polish the plastic etc…
The turntable belts were both seriousy damaged so I was confident it would be easy restauration ! I finished reassembling today and didn’t break anything, I think so ! But it still won’t play a record, and this time when I play with the buttons (side A/B, repeat…) the green and red lights don’t respond ???
So I took off the turntable again but left it pluged and notice that the gearbelt motor (the one with the tonearm belt) was slowly spinning but wasn't moving the belt… I took off the tone arm belt and the motor start spinning at a normal speed (I guess). I probaly have to seriously clean the little wheels systems after the tone arm belt, it’s not easy to turn even by hand.
I stopped there today I needed a break ! I have a friend who understand all the electronical schema of the manual so he is having a look on possible reasons for those problems but do you have any idea on
why this turntable is not spinning ?
why the green and red lights doet work anymore ?
how to fix the tonearme system ?
I was hoping by trying to think logical that when you start the turntable it first put the tone arm to a rest position before starting to spin the record and allows you to use the buttons ?? makes sense ?
Thank you verry much, hope you had a nice Christmas !!
PS : I also have 2 VZ 3000, both with problems but différents, I’m supposed to make one working (for me this time) but if you know that I can find spare parts in those that can fix the VZ 2000 let me know.
