So I noticed my Sanyo's M7700 autostop on deck wasn't working anymore. Turns out drive tire that works take up reel was a little dried up. Deck was still working and take up reel was still going though...

I replaced tire with one of those rubber round gaskets but still wouldn't help autostop. Probably because of less surface area on tire so I tried cleaning the surfaces the tire rides on. Both surfaces are plastic and have ridges for better traction. Cleaning didn't help either!!!

Next thing I noticed is spring seemed a little weak that pulls tire tighter on the running surfaces so I decided to cut some spring off to tighten it. It seemed to help better but still no autostop.

Next I thought about trying to flatten outer edge of rubber tire to get more rubber surface but was worried it would end up uneven. But then decided to try rubber cement on edges of running areas. I let it dry and voila it works!!! Tested it out dozens of times yesterday and today and happy to report it works excellent. Autostop literally works as soon as tape ends. So I'm a happy camper and didn't even have to search for new tire which would have cost at least $10 shipped.

While I'm not saying it will work for every application it's always a possibility to try out ;-)

thats a great idea bill, what make/brand did you use,
I think any brand would work as long as it says rubber cement.

Great idea Bill!
Application is a little difficult without spreading all around.
If it is a bit uneven, can we sand it off?
I didn't even bother sanding it and it's been a couple weeks and still working on mine. :-)

Ingenious and very interesting indeed. I have a problem with a hardened rubber idler wheel on a turntable, this type of repair just may offer a solution. :hmmm:
You can try it I guess. I did change the actual tire but with one of those rubber washers from Hardware store. Only problem with it was its got a round surface edge so tire don't ride flat on surfaces. I actually put the glue on the surface as opposed to the rubber tire.
