Realistic SCR8 music search

Hey guys n gals just picked up an SCR8 that needed some restoration. The unit was super clean except it wasn't working. Well I got all the issues restored as it pretty much was normal stuff wrong with it. One of the big issues was because of it being here in Florida it had plenty of moist salty air all it's life so some corrosion caused many of the problems including switches, pots, antenna and tape head. Got everything working great now including tape deck which needed usual cleaning, new belts, pinch roller and head. All the grease needed removal due to it being stiff and the usual issue with heads not going up all the way to play tape properly needed repair.

Anyway I got all of these issues taken care of except for music search. I did notice the Variable Resistor for music search sensitivity was corroded so I replaced it but with no luck getting that working yet. I have tested some of the components with no luck finding culprit. I've gone through scheme but just can't figure out where to go next with it. I've searched here on forum with no luck finding similar issues. I'm hoping someone else might have had this problem and maybe found solution or maybe just trying to get idea of where to go next as it's really got me boggled. Well finally got the music search working thanks to Norms help. Found some bad caps causing issue with it and replaced them and now she fully working. Thanks again Norm for the help

Excellent work Bill. I know it is SOOOO rare to find a working SCR-8 deck. These seem to have so many problems. IMHO, these are one of the coolest boxes. The deck in mine actually works, but needs to be rebelted. But it has another issue with a small latch mechanism that closes and holds the deck door in the right position for the tape to work. I have never tried the music search function. It's on my "To Do" list!

Back in the day, this was the first radio I say with the music search, it freaking blew my mind. I wanted one so bad, but ended up buying the 920 because it was cheaper.
