Hello Boomboxery! I'm a new member here. I live in the Washington, DC area. I bought my first boombox back in 1985. It was a Lasonic TRC-920. I was living in Philadelphia when I bought it. I had to cut school and to work a construction job with a friend to afford it. Later that year I joined the US Marine Corps. I had it with me for a while, when I was stationed at Marine Barracks 8th & I in DC. I let my brother use it for a while. He lived in New Jersey. When I went to retrieve it, the Lasonic TRC-920 wasn't the same. My brother must have taking his anger out on it, because it look as if it went through combat. Here is a photo from 1985 with the Lasonic in perfect condition. No photo of the beat down Laconic.

What brought me to Boomboxery. I was watching 'The Get Down' on Netflix and I started thinking about my boombox. I said to myself, I would like to have the same type of boombox that I had back in the day as a show piece in my Dj room. So I searched the internet and found a couple beat up lasonics 920s with missing parts. I came across a youtube video by 'Anditslikethat' with a Lasonic TRC-920 that looked BRAND SPANKING NEW. https://youtu.be/-f7exKZ33pU

I contacted 'Anditslikethat' and he sent me here. I had no idea that boombox collectors even existed. I was blown away. My eyes were open to a whole new world.

I finally found a Lasonic TRC-920 on eBay with all it's parts

On the last picture, it has a crack on the radio display window. It looks like a scratch but it's a crack. The radio works fine, the tape drags, and a couple light are not working.

Hi Will and welcome to Boomboxery.com :-)

You have certainly come to the right place if boomboxes are your thing. There are a large number of Lasonic lovers on board so fire any questions you might have - do a search and you will see plenty of restoration threads on your Lasonic.

Don't be afraid to crack that box open for a little maintenance. Boxes from the 80s certainly deserve a little TLC to keep them running right.

Enjoy,

James..... :-)

Great story Will. That box looks really nice and it has it's antenna tips which are NEVER there! SCORE!

If you open it up, take a ton of pictures of everything you unplug, unsolder or unscrew. That way you can put her back together again!

Whats up Will, good to see you on here . Cool story too.
Be careful with the "function" switch as it often breaks on those models.
