Hey all, I've been fitting some new parts to my 8585x to rejuvenate the tape deck and so far all is well. I received some RC fuel line along with the other parts so I was wondering, should I replaced the capstan rubber even though it is intact ? To actually replace it, do I just keep yanking at the capstan until it comes out and the original rubber falls off ?

Cheers.

Quite possibly someone already replaced it 🤔.

Yep, maybe so Bill. The stuff that's in there is black, so it's not RC fuel line that I can tell. I might just leave alone unless I encounter any real playback issues.

I'd replace it personally as every sharp deck I've had needed doing. And yeh once you've got to the flywheel you just pull :-)

I agree 😉

I had a similar conundrum, Sharp with a capstan intact, hmm i thought, maybe i'll leave it. Swapped it anyway and on inspection it was a weird sticky texture and split to. Change it. Such an easy job anyway.

Be careful to not lose the teeny weeny washers.
