Hey guys,
it's been a while :)

I finally found a CFS-99, yay!
It needs some fixing but thats okay.

One issue I have is the tape deck.

I got replacement belts but need some help with changing them.

The long belt located on the side is completely broken. It was still hanging inside but split apart.
I looked inside my CFS-77 and the tape unit seems to be quite similar.
Is the long belt on the side running the same way on the CFS-99?

Scince I'm on it I wanna replace the other belts, too.
Do I need to take apart the tape unit to switch them?

It would be nice if someone can point me in the right direction.

Cheers,
DrmZ.

From what I remember you don't have to remove the deck out for belt replacement (I could be wrong!). You can easily change it from the rear side of the unit.

Here is a picture of it. From CFS 77 and up they all use the same belts. The deck section is the same except for the LED display tape search added on CFS 99.

Thanks! So I can use my 77 as reference. That helps a lot.
Did you only change the belt on the side or did you change the flat one on the motor, too?
It looks like its a lot harder to get to it?

Cheers,
DrmZ.

I changed only the small belt. The flat one was looking fine. The rear section with the AMS board will come out to access the flat belt. It is a little tricky. Take pictures when you remove it for reference purpose.

I forgot to take pictures of accessing the main flat belt. Other members might have pics of it and more details on the main flat belt change.

Cheers!

Okay, I will try replacing the small belt first and see if it runs.
Maybe I dont need to change the flat one.
Thanks again for your help!

Honestly since your in it I would recommend all belts besides the counter😉 trust me you don't want to have to go back in just to replace a flat belt. Flat belts tend to stretch more from age than square belts 😬

I managed to replace both belts.
The round one on the side was easy.
The flat one was a lot trickier.

Unfortunately tape still does not work.
The motor ist running and the belt are moving but the axles are not turning.

Honestly I'm lost what the problem is.
I dont have much experience with fixing boomboxes beside changing belts and cleaning potis.
Another strange thing is, that the tape motor still works even if power is turned of.

And btw my 99 does not have tape search.
There is no display and search buttons next to the eject.

That deck is very complex!

It needs a complete reset.

I think it has to do with the reset mechanism.

It may be still in the pause mode also.

Turn the flywheel with hand in the opposite direction of motor direction and then try playing it.

I took it apart like 2 years ago and don't remember well on how I did the reset and all. My bad! I should have kept some notes on it.

Our member (Lasonic TRC-920) Chris recently worked on one.

I would PM him and ask for his advice.

With decks like this, make sure you set the deck to "neutral", then rebelt it and then it should be good to go. It may have some kind of mode engaged on, so make sure all leaf switches are disconnected and before putting it back together, try to turn the flywheel to simulate playing, that also helps to see what works and what doesn´t. I´d personally agree with BoomboxLover48 as i´ve never worked on CFS-99.
