Ever since this idea of an "International Boombox Summit" came up back in October, I've been searching for ways to help produce a 1st class event for all members in attendance. I think that one of the ways to best create a great experience is to secure a meeting space for us. Like you all know, I threw the idea out to our members and so far we as a group have responded with about $750 towards our approximately $1000 goal. I've been so happy with how so many have stepped up to make this happen. But to help put us over the top, I decided to reach out to businesses in the audio industry to see if they could help sponsor our event. I emailed Joe Born the CEO of AiwaUSA and told him what we are trying to accomplish. Below is my initial email to him and his response:

Needless to say I was thrilled with his response and appreciate greatly how a CEO of such a large company not only emailed me back personally but was more than willing to help us out.

Below is a picture of the Aiwa Exos 9 unit that can be purchased on Amazon for $299.

Here is a picture of the prototype that he has offered to auction off for us. From a functional standpoint the operate the same. The main difference is in its looks, specifically it as chrome rings around its speakers instead of plastic ones.

Since this is a prototype that was not meant to be released to consumers and only 15 were made, its value should be significantly higher than its mass produced counterpart.

I'm hoping that this item brings in a good amount of money not only to help fund our event but also to help decrease the very generous pledges that our members have made towards the meet.

Currently I'm working out the details of this auction and will provide information regarding when it will take place here on this thread.

Thanks and I hope a member of Boomboxery wins this item so this very rare unit stays in our family.

Holy moly, instead of sending it off to auction he should sell us raffle tickets so one of the collectors could end up owning it and help fund the meet!!!!

I would love to own that prototype and make up another custom handle.

That's a better idea. Not to be selfish but that thing is sweet!!! I'd rather see a member here be gauranteed to get it than some random yahoo on eBay.

And it's Vegas, raffle tickets are sort of a form of gambling. Perfect!!!

Side note. How awesome that is you contacted them and got that kind of response.

Great work howie!!!!
Thanks for the props trippy!!! This site and all of you have given me so much, the least I can do is try and help create the best possible event.

As for Joe's raffle idea, it obviously would need to be approved by Aiwa's CEO. It's much easier to do it as an auction but I will definitely explore the ins and outs of conducting a raffle and make sure that which ever route we take, our Vegas expenses will be taken care of.

I'd definitely support a raffle. If it were raffled to the membership then people who won't be able to attend would also get to be in on it. It'd probably generate a lot more revenue then an Ebay auction and the money could be added to the coffers more quickly to ensure it would be available for the meet.

That's awesome work Howie and amazing that the CEO gave such a personal response...you tend to think they're big faceless corporate organisations but this shows they're real people...love it. Well done Howie and well done Aiwa :-)

Joe Born it's a VERY cool guy!!

Cheers...
Yes I agree, Joe and his team are all very good about replying personally to each individual. Its very nice to actually speak to a real person these days regarding any issues or customer service related questions. They've all been super helpful to me before and after my purchase of the E9. Top notch customer relations for sure.

Has anyone tried to reach out to Lasonic? Let's get as much corporate involvement as possible. Great work Howard.
Yeah, Steve is working on Lasonic but hasn't gotten a response yet. It would be dope if both represented our meet. 👍

I think this was an awesome idea and I just had a thought that most of these companies like Aiwa, Lasonic and TDK are real small companies now not like the Boombox industry of the 80's when the companies were huge and had more assortment of audio gear to offer. I mean you could never talk to the owner/CEO of Sharp, Sanyo or JVC because they could care less. But now seems like you literally can get in touch. 😎👍👍👍👍

It´s great to see that you got to talk to a corporate head as with a human person and this Aiwa prototype looks really cool, i hope it gets raffled or auctioned off to someone.
