Finally got these back from the sign company, as some of you may have experienced the alloy effect panel can sometimes deteriorate if the box hasn't been looked after properly.
The box I had was a mess as you can see.12829164_10206011295225801_934051208166593244_o.jpg
I decided to see if I could get something made to smarten it up a bit, I had some transfers made the same as the original, these are very hard wearing with 8 year outdoor guarantee, you cannot remove the print, I tried with a sharp knife. The adhesive is permanent when set and would require scraping off.

Anyway to apply these first ou need to prep the old panel as the transfers are thin and any imperfections will show through.
I sanded the original with 800 grit wet and dry, it was very easy and took less than 10 minutes. (the original is certainly not hard wearing)

This panel also had some deep scratches and a crack at the top so I glued this and went over the cracks with automotive body filler.

Once done I washed the panel under the hot tap to make sure no dirt remained.
I then mixed hot water and washing liquid in a bowl and wet the panel with it, on peeling the transfer I did the same to the back of that.
The carefully applied the transfer.

I used my fingers to carefully position it and brush out any snags or bubbles, This is the first time ive applied a transfer wet and didn't find it too difficult.

Positioning isn't perfect but its pretty damn close.
These are quite thin and can tear easily during application so you have to be very careful.
Ill post a picture of a transfer applied to my stereo when I get round to it, this is just a test piece and probably wont be used.
I have more available £12 posted UK, not sure on postage for outside UK.
Can be used for any Jap boxes also with Japanese writing.
Hope this is ok admin, if not please let me know and ill remove the sale part.

WOW - Top Job!   :hooray:

It looks dang fine to me, most impressive indeed.

Q's:
I assume the transfer is what's known as a 'water slide transfer'?
Have you coated the transfer with a particular coating to protect it?
How did you copy/design/whatever the original design?
Did you just take/send an image file to a transfer manufacturer?
How much did this cost?

I'm very keen to know these things for a couple of my own boxes.

hi, I took this old panel into the shop, he did all the work. I guess it is water slide as this is how he told me to apply, as for coating I applied nothing, they are made hard wearing already, you cannot get the print off.
The cost was £65 for design and print of 10 transfers which I thought was quite reasonable.
I have the other panels ready to go too, cassette function markings and sound button panel.

Thanks, squeezebox. Not a bad price when all considered.

Looks worlds better. Great job applying it and searching out the shop to do the transfer details.

Amazing! I own a decal/sign shop,and I havn't had a need for water-slide decals before. I should start looking into it,in case I need to do this.
It's like a whole new facelift. Good restore!

Damn, that is amazing.

The 777's suffer so hard from oxidation.

HEADS UP EVERYONE....Buy that 777z in rough shape now, save a ton of money and have this done!

Great Work SqueezeBox!

I just got my 777 and this is the only area that needs work. I am highly interested in these decals.
This is so common. Any of these that were near the beach or most from Japan suffer from this issue.
