Anytime I adjust the volume there is a ton of static. Probably a cap. New to boomboxes and there are quite a few caps in there. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Spray that volume pot/slider with some switch cleaner/lube.

Next.
Excellent I'll give that a shot. Getting to that pot looks like fun!

Thanks

You should clean all switches and pots 😉

I'm definitely going to since it takes a bit of work to get to them. I might as well hit them all.

It's known in the vintage repair circles that Deoxit brand by Caig is the preferred cleaner for this job. It is a bit of work since you have to remove the tuner, amp, display board to access the knobs/switches. I'd recommend using a paper towel inside the unit to catch any residual. Spray, work the knob/switch a couple dozen times and air dry.
