I got my Sharp on Thursday - worked fine through till Friday :grim:

Didn't move it AT ALL - then MOnday she no longer plays tapes - I hear the amp fire up - but no capstan movement nada

any ideas?

Is it likely to be a dry joint ot has the motor just packed in?

Either way - does this "sound" like an easy fix?

many thanks in adv

if you do not hear the motor running it may be a few things.. motor went bad or no voltage to the motor but if you hear the motor running most likely belts and to me its the most common cause and the good thing with those sharps they are an easy fix

Welcome aboard, Claret! :-)

Some motors can be quieter than others. Have you actually opened it up and inspected things? It the 9191 is anything like the 9494, you'll have to remove the cassette mechanism to really get to the motor and belts. It's not a difficult task, but like most boombox "surgeries" will require patience.

Let us know what you found.

Hey thanks for the welcome - I am a self professed analogue head
My collection is small - but I have always had an eye for nice ghetto blasters

I bought a M90 for 12 quid from a junk store 15 years ago (knowing it was the one from LL Cool J's Radio LP cover) But gave it away as the tape deck never worked

*FACEPALM*

I will check out the motor this weekend

got to say - the sound from the Sharp isn't as good as my Panasonic RX 5250

I've read more than a few posts about the flat, dull sound of the Sharps boxes below the 9494s. Panasonics have the ambience feature that helps them too. :-)
