I wanted to share my latest 'invention' the demagnetizer. Useful tool when dealing with cassette players. Didn't want to spend about 25€ for a tool that I can build for free. If you are lucky you'll get a whole boombox for that money. :-)

Whole process took me about 1-2h including finding the parts.

1. Inductor coil - maybe from a old printer or a copy machine
2. Transformer (AC to AC 9V 0,5A) and ac cord - from a broken computer speakers
3. 9V wire from a old keyboard
4. Heat shrink tubing
5. Some kind of a plastic rod, not metal
6. Good glue, I used the same what I use for BB case repairs
7. Diagonal pliers, soldering iron, heat gun, solder

Connect AC power cord to transformers primary coil (input) and inductor coil to transformers secondary coil (output 9V) side. I added 'handle' for better grip to inductor coil, but that's not necessary, you can hold it with fingers. Then you know better when it gets hot. Also you can make this inductor coil by yourself. Take a 5'' iron nail and wind cat5 cable's one singel wire (extracted from pair) like 300-400 times around it and you're done. I tried to wind around paper clip aboud 200 times, that came out too weak and power transformer became really hot like in 5-10 sec.

My setup came up really powerful. In 10-15 sec inductor gets quite hot, but it's nothing compared to it's demagnetizing effect. When I tried to demagnetize my screwdriver for testing it started to vibrate so hard that I thought the screwdriver will explode!

P.S. I now saw my paper clip coil with orange wire in the background! :)
