Hey everybody, another pollack just joined your forum.
Although I'm first generation off the boat, I was born & raised just outside of Detroit.

I'm now in my 40's & I've really wanted another boombox since my dewalt jobsite radio is a turd painted yellow.

Back in the day I used to own many of the ghetto blasters we've come to cherish today.
Skipping class in high school we'd go uptown & jamm the beastie boys - license to ill or some ll cool j - rock the bells.
Good times but the class I cut most often was math so the "registration challenge" almost kicked my ass & nearly prevented me from joining.
Who would have thought algebra would be a requirement to join a forum... lol

Anyhow, I was driving home one night last month & made a last minute decision to take a route I'd never normally take.
I turned the corner about 5 blocks from home & there was a huge pile of bags & boxes on the curb. Sticking out from between the bags & boxes was a dark rectangle with what looked like two antennas on top. :w00t:
My curiosity got the best of me, knowing what they resemble in the dark, so i pulled over & jumped out.

I saw the long handle & said to myself "Naaa, couldn't be!" but low & behold out of the trash appeared a Lasonic TRC-935 !!!
I immediately said to myself "I'll take it!"

Now this thing was a mess when I found it, plastered with stickers, missing parts & the speaker grilles were pushed in (which made it sound like a turd rolled in glitter) but believe it or not the damn thing worked!

I have since gave it a thorough douching & it looks & sounds amazing now.
Now comes the hard part, finding the missing pieces, which is the primary reason why I joined this community.
I'm really hoping to find resources that'll lead to the parts I need to make this boombox complete again.

Thanks in advance to any members that can assist me in bringing this back from nearly being land fill.

I'll upload pics when I get my post count up or whatever it takes cuz the pic upload failed...

Ya I'm more than willing to share some pics of this fantastic find so you all know I ain't BS'n you, but I'm unable to do so just yet.
Anyone know how many posts till I can get "privileges"?

What's really killing me right now is that I may have missed the possible second deal of a lifetime...
A friend text me from a garage sale sayin these old ladies had a big ole radio for $10...

When I got the text hours later I asked him if he grabbed it for me, He said "no" & I asked him for $10 what the hell was wrong with him??? I asked if he had the sense to get a make/model# & it completely knocked me on my ass when he said Lasonic 931 . . .
He told me to relax cuz they gave him their number & he'd call em back regarding it.

A week passed & now he says the ladies aren't returning his calls. What's disturbing me is that a CL ad for a 931 just went up & was sold for $150 or less in a nearby city... What's the odds this was the same radio? Ugh! it's making me sick to my stomach... I could have had a second gem for $10.... Awwww mannnnnnnn!

Great story and it sounds like you belong here! Can't wait for the pictures !!!!

Dude, don't sweat the missed 931 deal. You can't let those eat you up inside or you will go nuts. We have all missed those scores.

Here's another attempt at adding a pic... Cool it looks like it's going to let me.
This is how it looked straight outta the garbage after disinfecting.

Looks pretty beat eh?
A few of the stickers were a total bish to get off but I've restored a few muscle cars so stickers don't stand a chance compared to rust...

Notice the "heartbeats" zig-zagging in blue & white on the speaker grilles.
It don't look like it was hand painted but I've never seen another like it, but the "hype effect" pretty much killed it seeing how it would have been in the same area on both & not mismatched like that.

It needs some love, some parts, maybe some mods if the parts are unobtainable, but I'm blown away at the fact that it works!
I hit the buttons & sliders with a few shots of fader lube & it sounds amazingly crisp & clear like that dang ole "Hi-Fi", just like the speaker grilles read...

If I was you, I would leave every bit of it alone. Exactly how you found it, just sanitized. It tells an awesome story of where it has been. This is how it should be.

Well I really wasn't looking at it from that perspective & I guess I should have left it alone till now but it's too late... I got to excited to see what condition it was underneath & have already stripped all the personality off it.

Here's another pic...

Whoever owned it previously wasn't a smoker cuz the inside was surprisingly clean, it was dusty but a stiff bristled detail brush eliminated all that.

The speaker foam & supports were both present which helped keep the speakers nice & white.

The stem for the tuner knob was pushed inside but was a simple fix to restring & add a generic knob for testing purposes. Will need an original if available.

No caps were leaking inside which was shocking & most all the chrome trim shined right back up with no issues.

Both antenna were present & neither bent which I figured at least an antenna would be broken but nope!

The biggest task is going to find the missing parts.
I need:
1) Tuner knob
2) Both cassette doors
3) 6 of the clear eq slider caps
4) 1 chrome slider for the mic/bal/vol slide pots
5) 2 chrome push buttons for the tape decks

Hopefully I can find the parts I'm after here, that would make this dream come true totally painless...
If anyone can help me locate parts hmu with a pm. Thx

Just to be clear with everybody I'm not looking to polish this & put it on ebay for a quick flip.
I'm not trying to sell it, I wanna return it to it's former glory & use it...

I'm actually completely stoked to have another one, especially one that fell from the heavens & dropped in my lap. :chris920:

I hope that is the only time you get hit with one of those. You don't want to know how many people "just threw there old boombox away" right before they found out I'm a collector. I've heard that more than once and it doesn't get any easier!
