Hey Guys,

Does anyone know how to adjust the tape speed on a crown csc 970 if it's playing too fast? Belt size isn't the issue btw.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

I didn't find a way to adjust the tape speed in neither of my crowns. Got the 950, 850 and 980. Crowns are low end boxes I guess. Maybe you can replace the motor for an adjustable one?

If I remember correctly pre-1980 motors had electro-mechanical regulator with torque levels-centrifugal switches combination. They were factory-adjusted and then sealed inside the double motor cases.
Later ones got a normal motor regulator with pot hole.

All these Crowns have a speed adjustment under a white sticker on the underside (take the front off any of these & you will see it) they are so easy to adjust!! My 850, 950 & 960 all have this type of motor

They are electronicly controlled by a servo circuit inside the motor like almost all 80's decks........

Here are the 950 & 960 inside - there is a small hole under the white sticker & the electronic pot to adjust the speed is accessible through the hole :-)

The 850 has a different deck but the same motor..........hope this helps!!

Even though the 970 has a soft touch deck, the same applies to adjust the speed!
