I own 4 of these walkmans that detach from a boombox, and only one works properly. One plays a tape fine, does fast forward and reverse, but I cannot get any sound out of it. I cleaned the head, and ran a demagnetizer across the head, and it does not make a sound. any ideas?

The second one looks like it was never used. These all were sold new in either 1983 or 1984, so they are pretty old. It does fast forward and reverse fine with the tape in, it will play and turn the little spindle without the tape but when a tape is put in the tape does not turn in the play mode. Any ideas of how I can get the tape to turn in the play mode?

hi.
the one that has no sound, needs new capacitors.
there are like 30-40 in the walkman part itself,
and if they are leaked (most probably they are)
then the printed circuit board needs some fix, too.

the ones which do not collect the tape have most probably
a broken cluch. in that case the forward reel is disconnected
from the rest of the mechanism (including the motor).
Fixing the clutch needs that tiny open o-ring.
For more details on the cluch, see this post:

good luck!
