I recently bid on (and won) a set of old Walkmans for $13. So far all just needed new belts, except for the Aiwa HS-J300. That one has been a challenge to fix.
It started as the auto reverse not working (loud clicking could be heard) unless you manually moved the linkage, but went to it always playing in fast forward until it jammed. This part is a work in progress.

But while I was disassembling it, two wires (white and brown) broke off a small component (highlighted in red) on the bottom left above the motor. And I didn't see them long enough to remember which wire goes where. Can anyone here help me with this? I'd appreciate it. :)

using a test meter, check which wire goes to ground. Connect that wire to the capacitor lead by the white stripe mark.
Sounds good, I will try it when I get a chance.
And does anyone have a manual for this model, or know where I can get one? All I can find are overpriced paper books from the UK.
