The quality will depend on the complexity and extensiveness of the software suite used to make the transfer. XP Sound, a company from AU that no longer exists, I believe, used to put out the AD preamp that I use with Diamond Cut Audio products, who also make a preamp.

Diamond Cut Productions is the shiat, imho. Nothing better for the home user. Or professional forensics work, for that matter.

I've been using DCArt & DC6 for going on 15 years now. Cleans up transferred analog sources like nobody's business.

In all honesty I would rather use line out or a headphone socket and record straight to my PC using the line in on the soundcard. Once its on there you can use software to clean up the recording .. Soundforge for example or Cool edit pro.

I agree with you.
All good boomboxes have LINE OUT. It's simple to connect to LINE IN on PC board.
"cool edit pro" or similar program is best way to recording and edit songs.
No need of this usb walkman...

This unit just seems to over complicate something that in reality is very simple to do. plus it is mega expensive in comparison! :D

Not to mention I doubt that the tape head is very high-quality in that device. I doubt it has good resistance to wow & flutter, either. Ask yourself, would you try to make your best recordings on a cheap boombox, or on your nice home deck?

I suppose if you had some super rare track or old recordings of something you couldn't find on MP3 already this would be cool, but just about everything is out there in FLAC or 320 MP3 already.

But I agree, just plug your highest quality boombox into your computer. You can find a ton of free recording software on the internet.
