The power switch is AFTER the power supply. So anytime the BOOMBOX is plugged in, it will be live. A humming transformer could indicate that the core is beginning to delaminate, or maybe it's loose. Check to see if there's anything loose in contact with it and that the screws are right.

Thanks fellas. I'll open it up when I get a minute. Weird thing is that it just started doing that today while my girl was sitting by it. I haven't played it in a week or even moved it in 3 weeks.

I have several that do that. So, I never leave any plugged in anymore. It wastes power.....they aren't energy-star certified or anything

Whoa never thought of that. I usually keep two or three plugged in. As soon as I get home I'm unplugging them. Thanks for that tip

I don't remember seeing a power switch at the AC inlet to the transformer. Basically AC circuit is complete on the primary winding of the transformer.
For that reason I always keep boomboxes unplugged or turn power off on the power strip / surge protector.

The best practice is turn power off on the surge protector.

I really don't leave any plugged in either. We took a nasty lightning hit about 10 years ago and it knocked out all of our electronics that were plugged in. Luckily I was not a boombox collector back then....
