So I was working inside my newly-acquired Realistic SCR-6 boombox trying to fix the pause button problem, when I noticed the cassette belt looked pretty worn, so I yanked it out of there. Suspicions were correct; as soon as I put it back on, it began to slip off. I thought that the flat belt set I have may have the belt in it, but it does not. Thing is, it's a very large belt, and the kit only had up to FBS12.1 or so.

TurntableNeedles.com has all of the belt sizes, but my question is, should I go with the 14.7, 14.5, or the 14.1 size belt (to account for stretching over the years)? This will be my first time I've had to measure a belt myself, so I want to be correct.

If you plan on acquiring more boxes, you can't beat this guy's prices on bulk belts. I have him saved as a favorite seller. He's out of PR and ships really fast.:

It's also helpful when you have multiple belts to test-fit when the factory size is unknown. If I can't get the factory size (usually on units with no service literature), I install the largest size that fits snugly, without binding. If you feel you're over-strectching the new belt, you are.

Thanks! I'll check this seller out.

By the way superlew, I know this is off-topic, but I've been meaning to tell you that I love your avatar.

:agree: :agree:

I would go with the 14.1" flat belt. In many cased when you order the medium size flat belt they are bigger in width and might jump off the pulley. I would order Flat Belt Small (FBS).

I saw only FBM 14.0" should work!

Now don't forget to lubricate the capstan bush bearing. Gently pull the flywheel out taking care not to lose the teflon see through washer on the deck side, clean the capstan and use white Lithium grease. This will prolong the life of the bearings and is better than light oil.

:agree: This is the way to buy a good variety. I've tried to buy individual belts and it never fails that I end up digging into my bulk stash for a belt that fits better on occasion.

Thank you!

I haven't really put a whole lot of thought and use into this box, though. I can't fix that stupid power switch short it has. :hmmm:
