Hi everyone , picked up an JVC RV-DP-100 Kaboom box on a local classiified site for $10 .. came with remote, strap , pouch for remote and power cord.

Problem : Unit would sit in standby mode, when pressing the power button , it would power on for 3 seconds then shut itself off.

After some research , even tried resoldering circuit board connections , freshening the joints. Didn`t work , same problem.

Removed the top carriage that houses the cd player and 2 other boards , one , the middle one , contained the IC`s ..

Removing all ribbon cables, found corrosion on several tabs ...IMG_20130915_152941.jpgIMG_20130915_153121.jpg

Proceeded to clean the tabs with a utility knife blade ...IMG_20130915_153127.jpgIMG_20130915_152952.jpg

Here is where the cables were plugged in , cleaned these as well..

Carefully reassembled the unit , and no power issues at all.

The cd player works, the cassette needed a belt and a slight azimuth adjustment .. The new owner of this $10 Kaboom, is very hap-pay! :-)

Just figured would put it out there in case someone else ran into these types of problems on their kabooms...

Have a great night everyone! ;-)

I have the iPod version with a power issue. Might have to try this out. Won't turn on at all. I'll tear into it after the holidays. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for these pics.

I am the original owner of one of these. My problem was that it would not power on with either the AC cable or with D batteries. I took off the back cover and jiggled some stuff around. It powered on. More specifically, when I apply some firm pressure onto the DC connector, the speakers pop then it powers off. I will completely dissemble the boombox to get a better look at the board. I'll take a look at the ribbon cable pins too.

I have never used the DC connector as I do not have one.

PS: what the heck is with XXVII, § 3, Part 2, of subset "D"
