After 50+ years on this planet loving boomboxes, I have to admit that Akai AJ500FS is my best in the collection. No one not even the Panasonic RX5350 or Panny RX7700 can come close to ( treble, treble, treble, treble. HQ clean and crisp sound) the quality of an AJ500FS.

Please see my one and the only ....World famous....rare.........like NEW...with not a hairline scratch

...smelling new...precious....lovable....mid size..BIG sound....real WONDER...treasure.... Akai AJ500FS

Oh Brother! Bill! They all became part of my life. It was my 25th wedding anniversay! Boomboxes are my weakness! I never sold any of mine yet. I am so attached to them. They all have to do .......with several stages/times ...time periods......of my life.



It's an addiction from childhood!

Congratulations Royce. This is a beauty. Coincidentally, I was browsing internet pics just 2-3 days ago on how many different "Upside Down" style Boomboxes were made. These are all I could find..... I have the AJ505, 530 and so on... amazing boomers

Hi Ira, It is pretty powerful! This sounds like the very high end speakers. Bass? it is there but I never went over 1/3 of the volume and it ROCKS!

I believe it is nothing less than 20Watts per channel- I could be wrong...it don't have the thump/kick of an M70, but pretty strong though..

The speakers are at an angle facing up and the throw is to our face....

Crisp, clean and very and clear sound.... I need to play some demo tapes to see the bass responses.

I would say this will rank #1 in the sound quality.

A rating I can give after so many years as an audiophile..... undoubtedly this is IT.


Quality of sound?....Mcintosh, Marantz quality sound!

. They only come once in a blue moon on EBay. So rare and those I've seen we're not it pristine condition. I will keep my eyes open to find one for you JustCruisin.

till your post --i would not have guessed they were so good .

is your #500 the best sounding akai -
or are they all sorta the same ?

And is not just about the sound - is about the shape, leds, knobs layout and so on and on. Im not missing lot of my ex silver boomers, but akais are missed ;) .
Congrats dude. Your 500 is deffo one of the best left on the planet.

Hi Ira, Akai AJ500 is the best sounding Akai. No other Akai models come close to this 500. AJ530 don't come close to this. so also the 505. I went to half the volume and could see it got nice bass also. No wonder people who owns it don't want to sell it and hardly shows up for sale. AJ500 finish is also superb! Very nice knobs! Radio dial is at an angle with LED that lights up under the pointer for FM stereo. The surface looks and finish also tells it is really expensive. Truely a GEM

Crisp, clean, and with amazing clarity like what we get out of mcintosh or Marantz recievers. It sounds like high end tube radios like SABA.

Treble is great even when it is 1/4, and then if you turn it up to 1/2 it becomes so clean :drool: and one would think this is it.

But as you go to 3/4 you will be pleasantly surprised, and at 100% it is a big WOW! :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:
